Wedding liability insurance

New, on July 20, 2017 at 7:52 PM Posted in Planning 1 28

For all the couples who are/have properly hosted your event with catered food and an open bar, did you purchase a separate liability insurance?

Yes, as we are using a private residence as our venue. Purchased from WedSafe, it was around $175 I think including cancellations.

No. Our vendor covers everything. I specifically asked about this going in. They told me they have a big enough liability (on a golf course) to cover anything. Ask your venue!

The venue we're looking at has it and it's a little over a hundred. My mind thinks of all these things that could happen and I'm so glad they have it! It covers any damages up to a million dollars. I guess the million is if someone sneaks off to smoke and ends up catching the place on fire or something.

We purchased liability insurance. Our venue didn't require it - but if one of our guests were to damage the property or get injured at our event, the venue didn't cover it. We though it was worth the ~$150.

My reception is at my father's home. He is adding a special event clause to his existing home owner's policy. So much cheaper than wedding specific policies. You should call up your car and home rental company to compare pricing for this in addition to ones like wedsafe because they will likely cut you a deal as an existing customer.

My sister got one of these policies for about $100 when she was on her high school reunion committee for the event. FYI everyone should keep that in mind when hosting something like that in addition to weddings.

We used theeventhelper.com which was recommended by our venue. It covers pretty much everything you can think of. From my dress to the catering. For 1 million dollar policy for the day it was 127 bucks.

Yes. We were required to purchase liability insurance with our venue. It was a little over $120 I believe.

Edit: We also used the event helper website!

My insurance agent quoted $5 to add venue insurance for one day to our homeowners policy. That was 7 months ago when we were signing venue contract. I hope it's still accurate.

While your venue may have liability insurance to cover them for damages or if someone gets hurt on the property, you should consider cancellation insurance in case (GOD FORBID!!) something happens and the big day doesn't go off as planned. The venue's liability policy isn't going to pay them what you owe them per your contract. Like everyone has said, wedding/special event policies are really affordable, and I think they're worth every penny for the peace of mind.
