Wedding kind of close to Christmas?

FutureMrsDeShong, on November 9, 2016 at 4:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Okay, so we are now considering on getting married in 2017 if possible, however, many of the available Saturdays at the venues we've contacted are in December. The one venue we really like has an availability December 30th. My first thought was that it was really close to Christmas, and there will be a ton of people traveling by plane. Is that a terrible date for an out of state (my family) wedding? Honestly, is it way too close to the holidays?

I think it's too close to the holidays, ESPECIALLY for out of state family.

I have been invited to three weddings the week after Christmas, and since we will still be with family, we RSVP'd no to all of them.

I think it's better than New Years Eve. As a guest it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I don't have to travel for the holidays though so I don't know how it would work for people that might have to travel twice in a short period of time.

What happened to your July date?

I think it's too close and you will likely get a lot of declines.

The July date was what we were planning on doing in 2018, I moved the date just to see the checklist and if it was doable. The venue we talked to originally put us down but would call if someone else officially booked it.

I would talk to the ines who would be traveling some may be gone already or maybe cannot take off. It's time to go someplace again so quickly. You do t want them to miss bc of the date. I would consider changing it if close ones couldn't make it.

Can your guests afford to come to your wedding over the holidays? Holiday flights and hotels are often much more expensive than during any other time of the year. My family declined to attend an out-of-state wedding over the holidays due to cost, and we didn't have financial problems. We would have gone if the date had been different.

A friend of mine got married on the 27th. They took down the Christmas trees at the church, but left all of the lights up. They did the ceremony around 5 with the lights off at candle light. It was BEAUTIFUL! If you want your day to be in December, I say, why not?? Smiley smile

Our wedding is jan 13, so obviously not as close to Christmas, but still near it. It really depends on how many out of town guests you have. Christmas weddings can be so romantic and fun. Xmas favors can be in gift bags, and Christmas colors. I love xmas so I would definitely take that date!

I know it's not much help but I think it would be fine! Haha

If i had to travel to a wedding between Christmas and nye, I would most likely not go. Just my personal input.

I thought of December 8, initially My wedding date. Still too close to me considering people do spend a lot of money on Christmas. So I changed it to august

I would have it before Christmas. We're having a Christmas wedding the week before Christmas. Check with your VIPs (family, people you can't imagine not having there) and make sure it works for them, then plan away.

I'm having a NYE wedding (52 days!!!!) so obviously I'm biased and think it's great since we do have a lot of family coming in for Christmas. Because what's a better way to start the year than being surrounded by your favorite people? And except for one or two, everybody's reactions seem to be positive (to my face anyways, who know what they whisper behind my back haha). That said, we do understand that it's a busy time and we are expecting some people to decline due to the holiday.

My fils were pretty concerned about people not coming to our wedding for that reason. And if they don't, that's fine. But it was the only date that really worked for us and I wasn't going to be engaged more than a year. At the end of the day, if we're married who cares who came and who didn't?

If it was the beginning of December and I was local, I would probably go. But between Christmas and NYE AND not local? I'd probably skip it.

Our wedding date worked for us because we're having it near our families' "home" area, and on both sides of our family and even our old/childhood friends, most people come home for the holidays and were already making those holiday travel plans. We checked with our VIPS among both family and friends and everyone seemed happy with it. A lot of people even said it was easier for them so they wouldn't have to make two flights back to New England that year.

Depending on where you live, travel could get difficult and even dangerous. IMO, November and December are busy months for most people. BUT weddings around the holidays do seem like they would be very intimate as most of us are in a particularly happy frame of mind.

I'm getting married the Sunday before Christmas next year. Yes, it's close to the holidays but those from out of town (I only have 2) are fine with it because they can spend a mini Christmas with family here then go back home!
