Wedding itinerary wording help

Bad Wolf .., on January 10, 2013 at 9:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

I am getting married in Vegas and am currently creating the intinerary for the weekend. We are having about 60 guests and the day before the wedding, Friday afternoon, we would like to invite everyone to meet at the bar lounge for a meet and greet.

Mostly so everyone in the family can see each other (we live all over the US) and my fiance and I can welcome them.

We weren't planning on hosting this gathering (as in paying for everyone's drinks) and I was wondering if that was rude. Can I invite them to the cocktail hour and not pay for an open bar? If so, how would I word the entry on the itinerary?

Or should we just pay for open bar for an hour? Is there a protocol for this?

Thanks for any assistance!

Does the bar lounge have food? Like appetizers? Buying everyone's drinks is expensive. Especially if you weren't planning on doing that. If the bar lounge does have food, I would suggest buying like 5 or 6 (or more if you like) different appetizers for your guest to munch on while they mingle. I'm sure they'd be satisfied with that. We did that for our engagement party. We couldn't afford to pay for everyone's tab so we bought different appetizers, had the waiter put them on the tables reserved for us, and and everyone appreciated it.

Oh, and on the itinerary you can just put something like "appetizers provided".

That's a good idea. And it kind of implies that liquor is not.

If you think everyone will go, thats a good size group- talk to the manager of the bar and see if they will do specials or discounts or something. Then maybe send out on the invite "Meet and Greet at such and such- drink specials available" if i saw that, I would know I am paying for my own drinks. And yea, putting out some apps would be easy and cheaper than drinks!
