Wedding invitations- rsvp Cards to include or not?

Amy, on March 10, 2020 at 6:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Hello everyone who reads this,

I am looking at wedding invitations and have been debating whether or not to include the R.S.V.P cards. I have heard from many people who have gotten married that it was a waste of money getting them because not a lot of their guests would send them back.

What are your thoughts?

would it be wise to include the RSVP cards or go a different route to make sure guests rsvp?

would having the guests rsvp through email, calling, texting, or wedding website be a better idea?

what has everyone done to make sure their guests rsvp?

Thanks,

Amy Gasiorowski Smiley smile

You’re right in the sense that a lot of guests don’t even send in the RSVP card. If you do want to save money then you could just say RSVP to a number or email

I really wanted to keep our RSVPs to website only, but we have a large number of older guests attending that would probably have a hard time navigating, so I figured we'd go the old school route. It really depends on your crowd, I think Smiley smile

That is what I was thinking a number or email. I know for a fact i forgot to send a RSVP back even though I wasn't attending.

I have a mixed crowd of young to older.
I did think of that. Some of the older crowd sometimes is not technical savvy.

We’re having guests use our WeddingWire website! The older crowd is just calling us or letting parents know. It’s worked well so far but we only recently sent them out. I like having a clear place for people to RSVP where I can refer back to

We did online RSVP’s though our website. We thought it was easier for our guests since pretty much everyone is on their phone or computer everyday! It also saved us a good chunk of money on stationary. Online RSVP’s will also send out a reminder to your guests when it gets close to the RSVP deadline, which is a nice feature you don’t get with paper RSVPs.

That is awesome to know, I would have not thought the website would do that. I always like the reminders so people know to RSVP.
You don't get the reminder with paper RSVPs. You worry that some guests will accidentally throw it away.

    Thank you for your input!

We went completely digital with our RSVPs. We sent paper invitations out and on the back of the invitation it included a note to “Please RSVP at (wedding website here) by (whatever your deadline is that you want RSVPs back). We have had great success with this!

I'm planning to have RVSP via our website and then also listing a phone number so anyone who has an issue with going online can RVSP that way. It creates less waste as well.

I'm debating if it's too tacky to have the website and number with RVSP date on the back of the invite to avoid buying a second insert into the invite.

I used WW for my wedding website to collect rsvps. The fomal invitation that I will send 6 to 8 weeks prior to the date, also has the wedding website on the back for last minute rsvps and for those who want to make hotel accommodations through the room block.

We did online RSVPs for our engagement party and it was a disaster! We even created a facebook event, too, and it still didn't help. All of the older guests used the RSVP number just to complain about not having paper.

Moral of the story: know your guests. It kinda bothers us that we're going to spend money on return postage, but avoiding chaos is worth the expense!

I ordered RSVP cards and customized them to include 2 options. They can either RSVP by returning the card or visiting our wedding website. I also spent a little extra $$ to put a stamp on the RSVP return envelope as well. My invites were sent on March 2nd and I've already received several back.

So I did both RSVP cards and had people RSVP on our website. I only put stamps on the return envelopes for people who I thought would not utilize the online tool (so I did save a bit of money there). Funnily enough out of the 30 or so invitations we sent, we only got 4 online RSVPs and the rest came back in the mail. So I guess it really depends on your crowd, but I'm glad I had both options.

I love the idea of a card, but I've learned that allowing guests to RSVP via the internet is so much easier.

I used e-vite for a retirement party last year and loved the fact I could see who had seen / opened the invitation. Although, we are thinking about using weddingwire for our wedding RSVPs.
