Wedding invitations lost in the mail??

Karleigh, on August 5, 2019 at 6:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13
I hope this is the right place to post this!

I sent my wedding invites out THREE weeks ago. I’ve had one RSVP from a different city, but no one in MY city has even received theirs and I’m really starting to panic. I put them in the same mailbox I put the save the dates in and everyone got those. The postage is correct, I weighed everything. The return address is on the back, but I haven’t gotten any of those back either. I’m really starting to panic!! What should my next steps be before I start taking pics of the invites and tracking down everyone’s email addresses? Ugh it’s really going to suck if we spent nearly $2k on invites that just got lost in the mail somehow. I guess I’m going to talk to the post office this week (where I mailed them from the boxes out front), but I don’t think that will help much. But please, advice, experiences, etc would be really helpful! (I am in Austin, TX)

My thoughts exactly!!!! $2k on invitations is outrageous.

But Karleigh, you should go to the post office immediately and discuss this with them!

I spent about $3k on invites so I totally understand and would be freaking out as well. I would go to the post office ASAP.

Were your invites large? They may have needed to be hand sorted and that can sometimes take a while.

Yeah kind of went all out with the stationary. All hand designed and printed. We compared prices with minted for the stuff that we wanted, but with all the extra customizations, it came out to about the same price as a private stationer so we went that direction. Our venue is free, photography and cake are majorly discounted, so we spent a little extra on invites and flowers Smiley smile

Yeah we spent so much on invites because the customizations we wanted from minted came out to about the same price as a real stationer where we could fully customize everything... a lot of people seem to be alarmed by that amount of money lol but our venue is free and the photographer and cake are heavily discounted as well. Spent a little extra on invites and flowers.

But yeah. I am freaking out.

OP here! For those of you wondering why we spent $2k on invites (that’s with save the dates included), there are several reasons.

The first is that everything we wanted to do on minted (like even just printed addresses) came out to about $2k so we decided to go to a professional stationer and have everything totally customized. So our save the dates, invites, programs (separate cost), and thank you notes (also separate) all match perfectly. Like they are perfect.

But the second thing is that we have a free venue (our awesome friends own this cute little restaurant with a great outdoor area—our wedding is weird, for sure), majorly discounted photography from an amazing professional wedding photographer I know (Sloan Breeden, based out of Austin but will travel, HIGHLY recommend), and a hugely discounted 5 tier cake. So there was quite a bit of wiggle room as far as invitations/stationary and flowers are concerned 😊

They were normal invite side, I think... I added extra postage to the ones that included rehearsal dinner invites and had everything weighed. But this does make me feel better.

I would go to the post office. They might of had to be hand canceled or had some other issue. 3x weeks is a really long time.

You're positive no one received theirs? I had some guests never give us their RSVP because people are just bad atit. If that's the case they never received it though definitely talk to the post office.

Definitely one person received theirs, I have one RSVP. I’ve asked all my close friends, family, and coworkers in my city and outside of it if they’ve received theirs and they have not. I’ve asked them to check multiple times and nothing. But weirdly one invitation went out. But all the people I really want at my wedding have not received theirs, no.

    OP here again!!

Okay so my stationer just called me and said 1. Every time she's opened an inquiry with USPS like I did, they've just been in a misplaced bin and get sent out and 2. She said she'll design a post card (for free) with the wedding details to send out, also kind of explaining the situation, and how to RSVP online. Just opened up RSVPs on the website and we're gonna pull the trigger on it if it's still nothing on Monday

THANK GOD!! This is after two separate post offices sent me on a runaround and I had to beg them to check for me. Today I got to cry in two post offices! What a life.
