Wedding Insurance?

Meg P, on June 11, 2013 at 8:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Does anyone have wedding insurance or are considering getting it? Are there any pros or cons that I should be aware of?

And if anyone as recommendations that would be great

Wedding insurance is good to have...like most insurance you hope you never have to use it, but if something happens it is really good to have. Whenever an event on-site here has alcohol we require them to get some type of event insurance. I would look into Wedsafe, or Wedlock. Those are the two that come to mind right away. I do not work for either company.

Like Kathy said, don't want to use it, but good to have it. These are the plans we are considering:

We are not, the venue has insurance and if we do alcohol we are getting a bartender w/insurance. So otherwise we should be covered.

TooManyMistys, make sure the insurance covers should something beyond your control occurs (bad weather, fire, etc.)

Most venues only cover themselves, your bartenders insurance may only cover himself as well.

Our venue requires us to get it. I got ours through wedsafe.com and it actually was very reasonably priced and there's different levels you can choose from and different options. Like the others girls said. It's good to have just in case.

Huh, I guess I didn't even think of this. Is it expensive?

On the one hand, I feel like this is a good idea. On the other I feel like it makes no sense for us as given schedules (ours, the venue), if something happens on our date, we couldn't reschedule until probably at least 10 months later, and at that point, it will get crazy with guests as well, and I can NOT deal with that much more time for wedding planning. I think if something happens we will just elope.

Make sure you read the fine print. I work in insurance (property to be exact). for us our wedding is very low cost. There really isn't many reasons for us to get and yes, with the facilities being insured it does typically cover you that's why they have insurance. It also covers them. The reason for both them/bartender was more so if a person got to drunk and wrecked we would not be responsible the bartender would. That sort of thing. Their insurance would and should cover fire. An insurance like this is really only needed if your event place doesn't carry it already (they are not licensed and insured) OR if there is a chance you might have to cancel the wedding. However, it doesn't stop if there is a written clause in your venue, so always read your fine prints.

@Kahlara that's what I told FH if this wedding falls through we are eloping lol. I will say if we were putting in a lot more money we would probably consider it.

There are two types of wedding insurance. One protects you and your venue if, for example, one of your guests drinks too much at your wedding, and drives into someone on the way home. The second type protects you in case your wedding has to be postponed.

The first type may be required by your venue. Even if it isn't, you may want the protection for yourself.

The second type depends a lot on the circumstances. If you're trying to have a DW in the Carribean during hurricane season, and have a lot of nonrefundable deposits, it may be pretty much a necessity. On the other hand, if you're having a backyard wedding and haven't put down a lot of deposits, it may not be worth the cost.

Our venue requires it also. FH is looking at adding it as a rider the day of (I think that is what it is called?) to his homeowner's insurance.

It is so worth the peace of mind. I spent under $300 for daughters insurance. I would not have a party without it. Trust me if your having alcohol they will come after you and bartender. If someone breaks a leg they will come after you too.

Thank you for all the responses, You've all been really helpful. It looks like our venue has us and their bartender covered under their own liability insurance but I'm thinking we should absolutely invest in the postponement/cancellation insurance. The quotes are coming in at less than $200 and compared to the cost of our wedding that's money I'm willing to spend just for the security.

    Thank you ladies!

Has anyone heard of/used The Event Helper for this? It was a little less than WedSafe for the $1MM liability insurance....but wanted to see if it was reputable. Thanks!

So my wedding was last Oct and because of this thread I bought the insurance. 3weeks before the wedding I was in emergency surgery with a ruptured appendix. Luckily I was ok on the day but the insurance company said they would pay to reschedule the entire wedding

What I'm saying is buy it, totally worth it
