How much coverage did everyone get when purchasing wedding insurance? Is more better?

    Hi there Nikki!

Wedding insurance is such a great idea. You never know what can happen and it’s smart to protect yourself for unforeseen circumstances!

The level of coverage would really vary from person/wedding to person/wedding! It depends on your budget, factoring all of the vendors and details of your wedding day.

Are you looking into different policies at the moment? Have you picked a provider to work with?

We just purchased wedding (event) insurance because it was required by our venue. We were told that it is standard to purchase coverage for $1 mill per incident. For us, we went through WedSafe and paid a little over a hundred for this amount. This also included alcohol coverage during the event. My FH and I also opted to get the cancellation insurance- not because there's any chance of cancelling the wedding- but because they will cover us in the event that any vendor fails to show up or abide by their contract. Cancellation insurance is approximately $100, totally optional, and just adds extra protection. On such a great day, we don't want to have any worries about these things. In our opinion, the more coverage the better. Some people have said that they can purchase event/wedding insurance from their primary insurance provider (like home insurance company, etc.). This was not available for us (we have Liberty Mutual and they don't offer this). If we had it available we would definitely have gone this route because it could save you lots of money. Check and see if your insurance carriers offer this to save!

Interesting. I hadn't thought of wedding insurance whatsover and I work at an insurance company! In your opinion, did you like your experience through Wedsafe?

They were fine. Fairly simple and straight forward to start a new policy. It only took a minute or two online and a credit card. Easy. I had mixed feelings about getting it at first. Since I was required to purchase it I did so a little reluctantly- there's so many other things that I could use the $200 on... Insurance is tricky- as you know- it may feel like a waste of money until the moment that you need to use it and then it's vitally important! I'm happy to have the piece of mind and was glad to cross it off the requirement list for our venue. The process itself was easy. They also have a pretty good reputation as a company for others on this site. Hopefully we won't need to use them, but if something does go wrong I'm glad to know we're covered.

Wow thank you everyone for your advice! I was looking into wedsafe too because on a previous discussion post someone suggested them. The liability coverage was good but once I started to get into the cancellation portion i wasn't sure how much to cover. I was going to do 50,000 thinking more is better but with that included insurance came to about $555. Which in reality doesn't seem too much if things happen unexpectedly like limos not showing up or something going out of business last minute.

We are doing 1M because that is what is required by our venue. Some venues do have set amounts that you have to adhere too, so making sure to check that with your venue is also important.

We are required to do this for our ceremony venue as well and I haven’t started. Where did everyone besides Chris get theirs? Chris, were you happy with your wedsafe experience?

I got 1 million for the venue as required and I added cancellation (I have a medical condition) covering up to 15k. I spent 317 dollars on this through K&K insurance which we were referred to by state farm.

We are required to do this through our venue. Most likely we will be doing wedsafe. I know Most insurance companies offer it as well.
