Wedding insurance

Miranda Landry, on March 9, 2021 at 10:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
Is wedding insurance worth it? Our venue doesn’t require it but highly suggests it within our contract. We’re most worried about having to postpone due to COVID-19 restrictions, but I’ve been reading that most wedding insurances do not cover COVID-19 related incidents, which personally I think is ridiculous because that’s the only reason most people are worried about their deposits right now. If it weren’t for COVID-19, I couldn’t see anything going wrong with our wedding since we’ve chosen reputable vendors that have been in business for 20+ years. Any advice?

We. have wedding insurance, but it really only covers catering! We are bringing in outside caterers and the venue requires it with any outside food. I think it's definitely worth it for that! I think I've seen other brides on forums saying they had to get a specific 'Covid insurance' for the wedding. If you're only doing it for that, I may look into a simple Covid insurance if you can find something like that!

Wedding insurance existed long before COVID! What if you get in a car accident and are hospitalized two days before the wedding? What if one of your parents suddenly becomes very ill and cannot attend the wedding? What if your eight-year old nephew sets the venue on fire and causes $50K in property damage? For us it was a no brainer; it's one of the biggest investments we'll make in our lives (similar to purchasing a car!), and for us it felt like a nominal price to pay to feel protected against the unknown.

Thank you for the advice! Yes, I agree it might be worth it in that scenario. Catering is in-house and covered by my venue though so I don’t think there will be issues on that end. I will definitely have to look into different insurances if there is one specifically for COVID.

Wedding insurance is well worth the very small cost. Stacey gave some good examples of things you never expect or hope to happen, but you also can't predict the future. I would rather be safe than sorry. We had it and have zero regrets.

Wedding insurance is not for Covid. It covers damages to the venue and other scenarios.

I would definitely suggest it. Basic insurance only costs around $100 (goes up when you add a higher guest count, full bar, etc.) and you can also cover things like your rings and decorations. Venues will have their own insurance, but any damage caused by any guest at your wedding or any of your vendors is on you if you don't have that insurance. Even if it wasn't required by my venue I would have gotten it just for the peace of mind. My venue is pretty all-inclusive (with the exception of photographer, officiant, and cake), and the small price tag is definitely worth it. We're planning for 75 guests with beer and wine and insurance only cost us that base price of $100. Absolutely a no-brainer for us!

I asked our venue & it’s included in our price. Peace of mind...

Our venue also doesn't require though the contract does. My fh and I decided to get a million-dollar policy even though it doesn't cover covid related things just for other liability reasons. Event insurance is common for weddings and has been around long before covid. I honestly don't think many couples will find insurance to cover anything covid related since many companies had time to alter their insurances since the pandemic was announced. But things like getting hurt at the venue or a guest drinking and driving and having an accident. It's a good way to just cover all your bases and was under 200 dollars.
