Wedding gifts

Chelsey, on December 28, 2019 at 2:26 PM Posted in Registry 0 5
My fiancé and I are not really a “traditional” couple. We were having a discussion about what we want to put on our wedding registry and the conversation came up about just wanting money gifts. My question is ... is that a bad idea to ask your guest? In my opinion registries are for things that you need when you finally move in with each other. We have lived together since our first year together so we technically have everything we use already. What are your thoughts in opinions?

We registered for some upgrades. There are tons of posts on this forum about cash registries. Some people find them rude and offensive. Personally, I don't see the point of them. People know cash is a good gift. All of these registries take a small percentage of the cash from either the giver or you. If you want cash, the easiest thing to do is to just not register. People will get the hint. Most people give cash or checks at the wedding anyway nowadays. Registry gifts are mostly for showers.

That’s a great idea. Just don’t want to offend anyone.

You don’t need to ask for money. People know cash is a good gift without being told. Skip the registry and they’ll get the hint.

The best way to not offend people is to not do a cash registry. If you have some items that can use an upgrade, then you can create a small registry for those that prefer to give physical gifts. We lived together for about 5 years before the wedding, so we had everything, but things like new towels, new sheets, some higher quality pots and pans, etc. were the types of things we put on the registry.

There are literally hundreds of posts with this question. Best to not register at all.
