Wedding Games!!!

Haylee, on March 1, 2018 at 8:09 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 20
Hi everyone! I've been thinking about having a game or two at the ceremony for the guests to have a little fun besides dancing and photo booth. Did you have any games? Did you play games? If you did have a game, what was it and did your guests participate?

I want to have a lawn game or two, if possible. Cornhole and bocce are both easy and fun.

Giant jenga sounds amazing. I'd love to have cornhole as well, but it all depends on weather! April is a heck of a month.

I was planning on getting custom cornhole and a giant connect four set made in our wedding colors/theme on Etsy for cocktail hour/whoever steps outside for some fresh air during the reception :/ the possibility of April showers are making me hesitate because they are so expensive and I would want them to actually be used.

I could always use them in our yard after the wedding I guess.

Edit: I thought about giant Jenga too, my only concern is that, since our cocktail hour is outside on a patio and not in grass, it will make a loud, disruptive noise when it topples over lol idk I'm weird

If you're having an outdoor wedding, then I think lawn games are totally cool and appropriate. Otherwise - please don't do it.... it's your wedding, not a birthday party, and I think most "wedding games" come off as tacky. Eating, drinking, dancing, and mingling is plenty of entertainment for your guests!

We are having lawn games during cocktail hour, and we are playing that question game during the reception in lieu of us doing a boutique/garter toss.

I love these idea. I was just thinking of things for our welcome bon fire and the giant jengs would be great! Do you think that'd be cool in the sand?

We’re getting married on the beach. Our venue has a beautiful patio so there will be some games like corn hole and such outside during cocktail hour!

I think games can be a fun way for guests to mingle so long as the weather is nice! I know my family and friends would definitely love it for extra entertainment Smiley smile

I went to a wedding once where there were games... a few of the men played but none of the women wanted to be bending over in their dresses. They were just annoyed that their SO's weren't hanging out with them hah...

I personally wouldn't be playing lawn games in a cocktail dress, but I would definitely recommend avoiding anything loud if it's on a hard surface as PP brought up.

Definitely not. My wedding was formal, lawn games are not.

I've never seen games at a wedding, never heard of games at a wedding before WW, and I don't get why this is a thing. Dancing, drinking, and mingling are all you need.

We are having a pretty relaxed reception when we got home. I got some awesome inspiration for games browsing on the internet. We will have old school board games from our childhood at every table. We thought it would be a great way to bring the fun out and we all know each other so it’ll be a blast!

We're renting giant jenga, cornhole, and connect 4 for people to play during cocktail hour. No games during the reception, though. I think after dinner dancing is the only entertainment people really need.

We went to a wedding two years ago that had lawn games and it was awesome! More people spend time playing games than dancing. It really set a relaxing mood.

We are having cornhole, laddertoss, giant connect 4 during the cocktail hour. For the reception so far we're having a Kuyabooth (photos), disposable cameras on the table with an I Spy card. This gives guests just sitting around something fun to do, and you get some neat pictures! We have other fun surprises throughout the night, but they aren't games.

We'll likely have some yard games out during our cocktail hour, as it fits with the venue and feel very nicely. After dinner, I think dancing, mingling, and the fire pit with smores will be more than enough to entertain!

I've never been against games at a wedding though, as long as they fit the feel. My friend had a video game/nerd wedding and they had a tv set up in the corner with some classic games that some people played on before dinner, and it definitely added to the feel. My cousin had his reception dinner in a shelter at the park he was married in and we killed some time by playing ladder toss.

We are getting married at a barn so we’ll have corn hole, horseshoes, bocce ball. And then we’ll have a table with cards, trivia pursuit cards, friends trivia cards and LCR. My family LOOVES games and I wanted to provide entertainment for those who don’t dance.

I am with you - and I love games, both board and outdoor games. The whole need to entertain people from sunup to sunset is new to me too!
