Wedding financing

Melissa, on July 5, 2010 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Does anyone have any advice or opinions about financing a 10k wedding? or any recommendations about what company to use?

I don't know because everyone here has told "ME" not to finance anything for a wedding, to save and wait til you can pay out of pocket so you don't go in debt over a wedding. I have not financed anything nor paid with credit, all cash but we're doing just fine. Good luck.

Hi Melissa! First off, love your wedding date! I'm not sure what you mean about financing? I don't think it's wise to go into debt for your wedding. But if you must, I'd look into no-interest for 1 yr credit cards. You could always transfer the balance later, but this would give you some interest free time.

I would say pay as much with cash as you can. and keep credit card use as little as possible(unless you plan to pay it off at the end of the month). we plan to take out a 1-2000 loan closer to the wedding date to tie up loose ends, basically to get any little things we still want but didnt have $ for. or maybe a gift to US, whatever. mostly just a comfort thing to know we have it all covered.

PLAN THE WEDDING YOU CAN AFFORD. IMO, I would never start a marriage off in debt, it's simply not worth it.

I would try to trim down as much as possible. Our limit is 5K so we don't go into a debt and still have some savings in case of an emergency. You could try extending your wedding date to give you some time to save, and you could look at alternate venues that may not cost much (or anything, if you know someone with a gorgeous backyard). You may be able to pay off stuff in small chunks as you go. Our venue required $1,500 deposit to hold the venue, and the rest is on a payment plan, with the final amount paid a week before the wedding. I don't know anything about financing for it, but be careful. Our friends paid off their $23,000 wedding with credit cards, and then some other issues came about, so they are paying quite a pretty penny every month in interest.

I'd have to agree with all the ladies here don't go into debt for a wedding . Eventhough its a very important day but paying it off afterwards will cause headaches. My wedding is just under 10 k and I am paying for it with my own savings.Of course I'd love to have a 50k wedding but I know what I can and cannot afford so I think its the best advice anyone can give you . I had a friend who had a 35K wedding and one who had a 2k wedding and honestly they were both special in their own way and each bride loved their day. Just stay within your budget no credit and cut the things that are not super important

Also understand that many of your vendors will work out payment plans with you. For example most photographers require a nominal retainer to hold your date. And my standard is a payment due 30 days out, and the remaining 10 days prior. Some clients opt to just make monthly payments towards the final bill, it's easier for them to budget their money if they say I need to pay $150/mo. to this vendor, and so on.
