Wedding Favors? Necessary?

I am in the early stages of planning my wedding, and I am curious as to the general opinion around favors, and if they're necessary. I'd rather allocate that money towards a Late Night Snack for guests, or a better band. Is it taboo to not have favors?

We're doing edible favors! That was my way to ensure that they'd be put to good use and not just tossed. I'd go with the late night snack, or edible favors are an option as well.

Totally not necessary! I've been to plenty that went without. Put the money towards something more beneficial! My FH and I decided to make a generous donation to Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund and in return we got 5x7 cards that were rolling into little scrolls for each guest! -as my father passed away in December to cancer, Dana Farber was amazing throughout his quick and sudden fighting process, we thought it'd be a nice touch and a good way to include his memory in our day!

A lot of people feel to skip the favors but I feel that it's another way to give back to your guests. they can to celebrate with you and who hates going home with a cute gift!
