Now would be a good time to start shopping around! Dresses can take anywhere from one month up to a year or more to come in depending on which dress you order or store that you buy from. Smiley smile

You need to go today. They could take six months to come in and then a month or two for alterations

I would definitely start looking! if you have a good idea of what you want it will be easier but you want to make sure you give yourself time to dress shop, plus delivery (unless you get one directly from the store) and for alterations Smiley smile

    Absolutely now.
Even if you buy off the rack (with a sample or something), you're going to need it altered. That can take some time.

I got mine within a week of getting engaged, at a pop-up sample shop. We got engaged and then married in less than 8 months, so I bought the dress in January, took it to alterations in April, didn't get back until August, and then got married in August.
Wedding dresses tend to involve a lot of fabric, layers, and more complicated underpinnings, so they just take longer.

I started last month because my dress is being custom made by a high school friend who is an excellent designer and she generally book quickly. However, a coworker rumored that some dressmakers in Asia close in February for Chinese New Year. So a few years ago, she had to pick her dress early for her wedding.

Go as soon as you can. I am getting married of June 2020. I bought my dress in June of 2019 and did not receive it until December. That’s six months of just waiting for the dress to come in. Then you have to get alterations done. It’s a lengthy process.

My wedding is in September of 2020 and I bought my dress in September of 2019. They said it will take my dress about 5-6 months to come in and then I’ll still have alterations and whatnot

I'm sure people who have already commented already mentioned but about 6-9 months before the wedding is what I keep hearing. Since it takes 6 months to come in and then you do a fitting for alterations a month or so before the day? Maybe earlier than a month before for alterations, not sure on that part.

I am also getting married in August of 2020. I got engaged in October, and had my heart set on a specific bridal shop and shopping experience that required my aunt to fly in and my mom to travel across the stare. We shopped in mid-November, and I was told to expect a call in the spring at earliest. That gives me roughly 4 months to get my alterations done. I’d start shopping if you don’t want to stress!

Now! They recommend having your dress ordered 10 months before your wedding to allow time for it to be ordered and give you time for alterations.

My dress took almost 5 months to come in and I bought it in store at David's Bridal. 5 months JUST to order it in ivory (originally pink). you still will most likely need alterations after that. I'd say go now

Start now so you don’t feel pressured. At most bridal shops, count on 6-8 months for the dress to arrive then you’ll want to start 1st alterations about 2 months before your wedding.
