Wedding dress shopping, not as fun as it seems! (Just a little vent)

Becca C-B, on September 6, 2017 at 5:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I was really excited about FINALLY shopping for my wedding dress (I have been engaged since December). I thought it would be so awesome to try on all these pretty dresses and it would just be relaxing and I would find "the one". Turns out, its pretty stressful! Trying to decide if you like dress A more than dress B, but what about dress C, and dress D had this detail I liked but not this one. Its crazy!

Anyway, I did not end up picking a dress while I was at the places, but I am pretty sure I have found the one after sleeping on it (although my sleep was disturbed by images of lace and tulle wrapping me in a cocoon and slowly suffocating me). Going to one more store that had some dresses I liked, then probably make a decision! So if you haven't done your dress shopping, don't freak out if you don't pick your dress while you are at the store. Going home and contemplating can be a really good thing!

Anyone else have any funny insights into their dress shopping experiences?

It was quite overwhelming and tiring. Getting in and out of dresses and taking pictures to remember which one was which.

I ended up putting together a Board to help me. (1) My Mom to keep he budget in check; (2) My sister who is brutally honest about how I look in things; (3) My sister's friend who was a bridal consultant. My sister's friend would ask me what I liked or did not like about a dress and helped me to find the one I loved.

I should add my seven year old niece and her BFF were also in tow for pure laughter. Everything looked flowery or shiny to them or they hated it. I even tried on some of their pics for a good laugh.

It was definitely overwhelming. I didn't get as emotional over my pick like they dramatize on tv. I knew my dress was the one when I started trying more dresses on and kept comparing it to the one I picked. Good for you for walking away- I feel like too many are pressured into picking something and then have dress regret. I kind of wish I would have done one more visit but I do love my dress.

Wedding dress shopping was one of the worst experiences of my life, so OP I completely understand. I not only nitpicked everything, I also am a curvy girl and having to squeeze into a sample size and have people tell you it will look fine when it is your size isn't a confidence booster.

I was finally able to find the dress I was looking for and didn't have the "moment" till it was here and in my size. That was after trying on nearly 100 dresses.

My first time shopping, I started my cycle!!! OMG, I felt like a giant blob. Everything I tried on I hated! It was horrible and I felt horrible. I went to three different shops.

I made a second appointment two weeks later, and tried on the same dresses and loved almost all of them. I'm sure I looked exactly the same, but felt so much better.

Now, I'm dealing with the worst dress regret! I'm not sure if I should have listened to other's opinions. Sigh.. I'm 25 days out, so it's too late now.

Buying a dress IRL is nothing like "say yes to the dress"... it's better not to have expectations going into the process

I realized how much I hated the sight of me in white gowns. I was alone so it was a fairly lonely experience. I ended up just buying one online and falling in love when I had it on me.

I bought the 4th dress I tried on because it made me cry. I was over trying on dresses and didn't even go into the store with the slightest idea I would buy a dress that day. Totes made the right choice though! I get it back next week after last minute alterations! So glad I picked it that day though because I was over it when I was taking the first dress off... totally feel you haha

I can completely relate! I went to my first appointment with my mom and MOH had an amazing experience knew I found my dress. My mom wanted me to try on more dresses so I agreed. The second appointment I went home and cried because they commented on my weight because I told them what size the other place measured me at and I could hear them talking about it. The third place had the best selection however I was still focused on the other dress. I was almost ready to buy a dress when the woman asked if in front of the entire store if I planned to lose weight and what works for her. My mom was livid. I've gained weight due to health issues but my weight is mostly in my belly. I bought a dress then two weeks later begged them to let me order a different dress and I finally ended up with my dream dress!

I went to a shop that was in the same building as the first apartment FH and I shared (a place I LOVE) and found The Dress after trying on around 6 or 7. I cried, I went out with my sister and celebrated, I went to bed, and then I woke up in the middle of the night in a panic. I went over budget, I look fat, the veil makes my butt look big, I am going to look hideous...full blown panic attack. Ultimately, I made the right decision, but I could have came to that conclusion a lot calmer had I went home and slept on it like you did! Good call!

I loved it, but I felt like it was in the pit crew of a Nascar race. Slip into dress 1, show the family, reject it, out of dress 1 and right into dress 2 and so on. It can be disheartening if you don't like any of them. Luckily I found one that I love and was able to get a great deal on it too.

I got a consultant that was obsessed with mermaid dresses..which was not at all what I wanted. I told her ball gown or A line going in but I was open to try anything on. The mermaid wasn't as bad as I thought it would be it was not what I wanted. After telling her this she brought me 4 more mermaids........my sister actually pulled my dress and on the hanger I didn't think I liked it either but I was ready to put in anything other than a mermaid! Turned out to be my dress! I tried on a couple more after just to ensure I wasn't just picking the first NOT mermaid!

I felt so awkward. Like I was at a beauty pageant and my friends were judging me. I think I even said "I don't know what to do with my hands!" Lol

I liked components of all the dresses but not enough to love any of them. I ordered a dress I've been eyeing online and if I don't like it, I'll go back to the stores lol

I made sure I didn't try so many. I told the lady exactly what I wanted and she brought me my dream dress Smiley smile I was so close to trying on more but I talked myself out of it.

I feel yah! I tried on so many dresses and was getting super stressed that I wasn't finding exactly what I wanted. This dress would be perfect if I changed that, that dress would be perfect with that adjustment. The three different bridal shops I went to in Arizona said they could make all these crazy adjustments. My mom kept telling me I would find my dress. I didn't believe her and thought I should just settle.

I went dress shopping in my home town that had dresses from a different designer I hadn't tried on. Found the most amazing dress and finally understood what my mom was talking about.

Try going by yourself. It may change the whole perspective of dress shopping.

I had a good experience in one store but was mostly going to get my feet wet. Hated everything I tried on in davids bridal and felt like the consultant wasn't really hearing what I didn't like about each dress she kept putting me in a line when I said I wanted to try other silhouettes. Then put me back in the one I hated least at the end to try to get a sale. I ended up buying a dress someone was selling on Facebook and I love it.

Dress shopping was stressful for me. I gained a lot of way in the last year or so. So I was already a little anxious. Dressing in general is hard soDress after dress I was feeling worse and worse. And then my mom made them try a different style on me. And then it all clicked. But afterward the dress regret hit. I am still a little nervous about my dress!! And I couldn't go into a dress shop after I picked mine it would make me doubt everything. I went with my FMIL to get her dress and had a panic attack when I looked around at ladies in dresses it made me fearful I made a wrong choice. It was not fun!
