Wedding Dress out of budget.

I found this dress, and my whole family fell in love with it. It has honestly made all of the other dresses I have tried on seem boring, but it's put of my price range. I'm pretty sure I could do it, my wedding is in July so I have time, but should I break the bank for this or just settle for one in...

The dress won't really need any alterations. I'm a pretty true size. Also I have looked at pre-owned sites and cannot find it

Almost every dress needs some alterations, even if it's just a hem. And for a gown like this, a hem alone could run you a couple hundred dollars. I'd really sit down with your budget and be realistic about whether you can scrimp and save to be able to afford it.

I was in the same boat as you, because I think this is the dress that I fell in love with, but it was a little over my budget also. Is it a Melissa Sweet?

The one that I ended up with was my other favorite and is is somewhat similar, but it was way less $. It's not as detailed and lacy, but still maybe in your budget. It's David's Bridal Collection style v3587. If you haven't tried it on yet, that might be an option for you if you want to save $500. Or you could cut cost somewhere else and go for that one. That dress is so pretty though.

ETA: some people are suggesting to try to find that dress on preowned wedding dress websites, but the dress is too new (2 months old), so you wouldn't have much luck finding it preowned anywhere yet.

OP, please factor alterations into your budget. That dress looks amazing on you, but from that picture it very clearly will need to be hemmed or you'll be stepping on it all night, even with heels. It also has a very long train that you'll need to bustle (or figure out another solution) to make sure no one steps on or rips the dress.

It looks long AF on you so you'll at least need it hemmed. I mean it sounds like you made up your mind so congrats!

Any alteration work (even something seemingly simple like hemming) costs much more with lace. Just keep that in mind.

Sweet pea... you tried on a sample dress. They stretch. Chances are that a dress in your actual size will need some alterations. There have been so many posts on here about "how the actual dress doesn't fit the bride" even though the sample fit perfectly. Please consider alterations in your budget. I got super lucky on mine ($150 for cups sewn in and a bustle), but this is not common. Best of luck to you in your decision.

Why did you try on a dress that was over budget?

For future brides.... This is why you DO NOT try on dresses over your budget.

Unless your whole family is helping pay then their opinion is irrelevant.

I'd also day don't go out of budget. You have to account for alterations.

I stayed in budget for Mt dress and wound up almost totally way out because of the 400$ alterations bull.

It is just a dress. I'm betting you can find another one.

I agree with SOME Of the others. You never try on a dress you can't afford. Your relatives, unless they're kicking in, have no say.

There will be another dress. One you can afford.

I went over my budget on my dress too, fh and I are pretty much not doing Christmas this year or next and keeping life pretty low key.

But. I agree with centerpieces. I've seen a thousand variations of this dress. It's beautiful. But it's very common of a style and you can probably find and exact replica for less.

Thats why Im just going with dresses that are in my budget... although I would love to buy the 2,000s ones, I know that I can use that money to upgrade something for the day like music or entertainment. If you can do it, go for it. If it means that you guys will starve so you can pay those extra 500- then think about it a third time. Also remember that is not just the dress price, but you need to add alterations veil etc...
