Wedding dress not in! 28 days to wedding

Melody, on March 8, 2020 at 11:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hello everyone, I ordered a dress in October in Fort Lauderdale with the promise it’d be in end of February. I flew to FtL from Seattle end of February and called the shop to confirm it’s there. The shop said that they needed another week or 10 days and “they’d call me when it’s in.” I’m now freaking out because I don’t have a dress in hand and I tried it on months ago. The ETA for the dress is now 3/13 and my wedding is 4/4. Even if they get it on 3/13 and expedite it to me, it’d get to me on 3/16 and then I’d have two weeks for any alterations. do you think there will be enough time for alterations? Photo below. What would you do?

I’ve heard of people getting alterations done in 2 days you may just have to pay a little more.

Wow that’s cutting it really really close. It can be done you will just have to pay to have it rushed. But since they did not keep up their end of the bargain and it’s coming in much later then they may waive that fee.

You should get an otr plan b to wear that you can return if you don’t need it just in case.

All depends on what alterations you need and how quickly your preferred seamstress can work. Show a seamstress the photo and ask for an estimate how long it will take. As soon as you have the dress take it in to the seamstress to be pinned and to get a more firm quote (work needed, timeline, price). As long as you’re not making major changes and your seamstress isn’t fully booked you may be just fine getting it done in time. You want to finish your alterations close to your wedding date anyway for best fit. Weight and shape can fluctuate day to day, week to week. It’s the brides who are doing big changes to a dress with many layers or intricate lace and beadwork that typically need a long runway with alterations.

I would consider a plan b. They'll charge you for rush alterations either way, but it is what it is at this point. I know for my anxiety I would buy something off of the rack so I know I have something.

Depends on who does your alterations. Let them know what’s going on ahead of time. They can tell you if they will be able to do it. ❤️ Best of luck

I was getting my bridesmaids dress hemmed. I went back to pick up still a month before the wedding so no rush. But she said I'd have to wait a week longer because she was doing alterations for a wedding in TWO DAYS! Apparently she was doing the wedding dress a couple bridesmaids and the Mother of the Bride. (I think she got them like a week before the wedding, maybe closer.) I guess the place they used for alterations messed her dress up and just never did the other ones or something. And I was fine being bumped a bit for this poor bride's wedding. Point being, this can be done! It may cost, and it may take some begging or crying, but this can be done. Like Rachel said talk to someone now and explain what happened. You can do this!

I don't know where your dress is coming from but right now, any wedding dresses made in China may be severely delayed. The store probably doesn't know that much more than you do. I would suggest, if it's within your budget (or credit card limit!) to order a back up dress online from BHLDN or a similar brand with dresses under $1,000. This way you have something and usually returns are free and allowed within 30 days which is basically now until your wedding. You will look stunning no matter what on your wedding day and having a back up option will soothe your mind when your head hits the pillow at night :p Best of luck!
