Wedding dress bustle help!

Suzette, on August 12, 2019 at 2:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi ladies, my seamstress would like me to let her know if I would like my bustle either below or right around my butt region or at/above my hips. Is there a difference other than the obvious looks of the dress in terms of sitting down etc? Any recommendations? Thank you!!!

Mine was right below my butt. I’ve actually never seen a bustle come up as high as the hips.

I had ballgown style with a train and opted for an "American" bustle (the other option the alterations manager provided was "French"). My dress bustled at my lower back slightly above my hip where the bodice and skirt meets.

Adding that while I was bustled, I needed to lift the back of my skirt a little before sitting. Otherwise I would tear the bustle off.

Did you ask the seamstress to see what she would recommend?

I did and she said it was my preference, but I figured I would ask brides and see what their thoughts were. My dress isn’t a ball gown style it goes straight down but the train is very long and cathedral length

Like Mary said, I’d be worried about sitting on it and pulling it out if it was up at my hips. Did you take pictures of it both ways and see which look you like best?

Daughter had a pretty full a-line ballgown. She also had a strong aversion to bustles that looked like, in her description, "the bride is pooping tulle...." (Sorry, but once she said it, it's a description that sticks with you when you see it.) Based on her concerns, her seamstress did a three-point over bustle for the tulle layers, with the middle point at the back center waist seam. For the lining layers, they did a three-point under bustle. It looked really nice. Once her dress was bustled, it looked like a full ballgown that ended evenly at the floor all the way around.

When I went in to my seamstress, she showed me what each one would like like. See if she’s willing to do that. I think it really all depends on the kind of dress you have.
