Wedding dress appointments

Millie, on June 10, 2017 at 11:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

Hey ladies!

When you went wedding dress shopping, did the sales associates try to pressure you into a purchase?

Secondly, are you guys having a groom's cake at your wedding?

Thank you!

Not really! They know it's a huge purchase that usually can't be returned and takes a lot of thinking . And no grooms cake for us

I haven't gone dress shopping yet, but I've gone with others to try-on their dresses, and I think it all depends on who you get! As KE, I think most know that it's a big purchase, but I'm sure there's a few that might be a lil' pushy. Just know what you want, what you don't like, and let them know what you're interested in/not interested in. Communication is key!

I want to, if the budget allows. I have it all planned out; I'm a spiteful little witch. You see, every year, without fail, the NY Rangers (my team) play the Pittsburgh Penguins (unfortunately his team) around our/on our dating anniversary. What I'm going to do is get him a Pens-themed cake. I will see to it that it's all decked out. But then, when he cuts it up, BAM! There's the New York Rangers colors on the inside.

It'll be hilarious. I hope I can do it, I really do.

I think it may depend on where you go. One of the places I went did try and pressure me into buying it, gave me an amazing deal too, but I just knew it wasn't right, so it was easy to walk away.

We didn't do a grooms cake-- It seems like this is a regional thing since I hadn't even heard of it before. But my friend did one and it was a huge hit!

My sales associate didn't pressure me, really, but she did mention that the dress was soon to be discontinued and that psyched me out a bit. I was really struggling with whether or not I wanted to purchase it (it is, after all, THE most important dress you'll ever wear!) so with her saying that, I went ahead and bought it. I have dress regret until I go back and see pictures of me wearing the dress. That seals the deal for me every time.

Regarding the groom's cake, I want my FH to have one but he's not at all interested in the idea.

Nope, I went to a small boutique and it was fabulous, my saleswoman was amazing.

I'm thinking of getting cupcakes for the RD, half decorated for the St Louis Cardinals, and half decorated for the Cubs, as a surprise for FH. He's a Cards fan and I'm a Cubs fan, and our friends/family who will be there are split about 50/50.

Not at all. I went shopping last weekend and the sales associate was wonderful. She was patient and helped me figure out what I was looking for. After each dress she asked me to tell her what I liked and what I disliked to narrow the search. 12 dresses later we found my dream dress. I was so grateful for her determination and and excitement. It was clear that she really loves helping brides find their gown.

    * Nj brides: I went to Say I Do in Verona. I highly recommend it for bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, and MOB/ MOG dresses. The owner is great to work with and the prices are fair.

We're not doing a groom cake but my fiancé wants to have a cookie bar so that's what we'll have.

Wedding dress - I went to one small boutique shop hoping for great prices, and I was sorely mistaken. Prices were starting at $2500 for a basic dress (no beading or lace). I left without pressure. I went to another boutique shop a few weeks later and tried on dresses again. These were in my price range, and the consultant left us alone when I was making the decision. They wouldn't have gotten made if I left. I did end up purchasing my dress, though! (So happy!)

Groomscake- no we aren't doing this. He doesn't like cake, so we are subbing pie for our actual wedding cake. Compromise!

My first wedding dress appointment she was very pushy but I was adamant that I wanted to try it on a different day by myself to make sure I was in love with it. I'm so thankful I didn't buy that day because I found two more at another boutique that I loved. At the second appointment with the other boutique she was very kind and understanding, it would've saved me around $100 to buy that day but I'm not going to make a quick decision and end up with dress regret. I told her right away I'd want a second appointment if I found one and she was awesome about it and even agreed that was a smart decision.

No not at all! I Went to a small local boutique and they were amazing. They asked me lots of questions before I booked the appointment so I felt like they knew what to expect from me. I didn't plan to buy but I found a dress I absolutely loved and got an amazing deal!

One was very pushy, after pretty much ignoring me the whole appointment and just laughing when I expressed what I didn't like about each dress. Told me that even though I didn't want bling I needed bling on the dress. Needless to say, I didn't go back. A good salesperson won't do that. Another boutique I went to, when they followed up and I said I had bought a dress elsewhere they congratulated for me and said best wishes! So if it's a good place then they really shouldn't be pressuring you.

Nope. When I am in search of something and am bothered by the sales associates I usually just leave. Like pp stated, it's a purchase that usually takes a lot of thinking and money. Haven't thought about a groom's cake till just now but I highly doubt it.

No, I went to 3 places and I never felt pressured at all. They were all very helpful and were just concerned that I was happy and getting what I wanted.

I'm surprising my FH with a larger than life ice cream sundae! That's our thing, but it was too expensive for all of the guests.

Yes and no, it depended on the place. Some would give really great deals for purchasing at that appointment but I made it clear I was not going to purchase any dress at my first appointment. Now family members pressuring to buy was a whole other story....just stick with your gut feeling. If you want to sit on it, it's better to pay the full amount than to get a discount and hate it months later

Not at all. I went to 4 stores and I didn't feel any pressure.

Yes I am surprising FH with a grooms cake of our favorite baseball team. I had these bobbleheads made of us to use as the topper.

My wedding planner explained that a grooms cake is a gift from the bride. The cake is typically something fun that symbolizes the groom whether it have footballs, basketballs, stethoscope, or whatever.

No pressure at all. If they pressured me, I would not go back or do business with them. Groom's cake-very southern and traditional. Is it customary in your circle or where you live? Is your groom dying for one? If no to all three, skip it!!!
