Wedding Dress Alterations

livelaughlove, on April 9, 2018 at 6:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Hi Brides,

Can anyone tell me what the cost of alterations were/are for your dress? I know it varies depending on the particular alterations and add-ons. But I am just wondering what the average cost is. The boutique I got my ball gown at has a seamstress on site and said their average is from $350 to $650. TIA!

Mine is going to be around $100 for having it hemmed, adding a bustle, and taking in the bodice a bit. This is in southwest MO which is a very cheap cost-of-living area.

Mine was $75 I believe. I only needed it hemmed, so I was in the running for cheaper anyway. That was Oregon pricing for a small alterations shop.

I’m from around Buffalo Ny. I want to say mine are under $200 for hem, taking in on the top, and adding on a bustle.

In the Portland, Oregon area: I had quite a bit done - a hem on the tulle skirt (~$150) , adding cups (~$35), adding a (eek!) 10 point bustle (~$150) and taking in the straps that have beading on them, so that needed to be redone (Whatever is left..) . Overall it was about $460

I spent $600 on a local boutique outside of DC. I had a hem (multiple inches), bustle, dress taken out and then back in, new zipper and breast cups. My friend spent $700 to get hers taken in, hemmed, and bustle (SoCal). Another friend spent $450 to get hem, bustle and dress taken in (philadelphia). A dress with more structure, heavy material (satin, multiple layers), and which is supposed to be more fitted (mermaid, trumpet, etc) will cost more money.

That must be nice. I'm from York Pa and will probably end up spending around 200 to 250 for a hem, bustle and possibly letting it out a bit depending on if impose a little weight or not.

My alterations and add-ons cost $525 in Chicago by a designer/seamstress. I am having my lace ball gown shortened, extra boning added, 3 point bustle, pockets removed, sleeves and sides taken in and a sparkling border added around the waist.

Alterations done in San Diego. Bridal shop quoted me around $450 but said the price could go up when they see the dress in person. Did a little research and found a local seamstress with great reviews. I had the dress hemmed and a three point bustle added, alterations were done in two sessions and I walked out the door with my dress for $150+tip in total and she was great to work with! Highly recommend doing research and calling around to get quotes.

Mine was capped at $350. It had to be hemmed (which was super time consuming because there were lace appliques all around the hem which had to be removed, the dress hemmed and then the appliques put back on), taken in at the shoulders, let out at the hips, bustle, and cups sewn in. I used the seamstress at the salon I bought the dress from because it wasn't going to be any cheaper elsewhere due to the hem.

Mine are going to be $630 in NYC (RK Bridal). They’re taking it in a few inches, hemming it, adding the bustle, sewing in cups, and changing the sleeves from caps to straps.

That is an amazing deal. It cost me $80 just to have my bridesmaid dress taken in a few years ago.
