Wedding Day Timeline?

Christina, on February 29, 2020 at 2:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I'm starting to think about the timeline of the day to determine if I want to book my photographer for the whole day or just 8 hours. I have my venue until 10pm and I like the idea of a later ceremony and dinner as opposed to lunch reception.

What time are you having your ceremony?

What time is your reception beginning and ending?

Are you doing a first look and wedding party photos before or after the ceremony?

We are starting our ceremony at 4:30, planning to run to 5. Happy hour goes till 6 (while we take pics outside). Then we have the place till midnight! I’m doing 8 hours bc I don’t care to have many reception shots, maybe the first dance and mother/son, daughter/dad.

Our ceremony began at 4:30 pm, then cocktail hour from 5-6. We planned for the reception to be 6-10, but we still had a ton of guests so we extended it until 11 pm. We did a first look before the ceremony.

Our ceremony is at 2pm, cocktail hour is at 5:30pm. Our photographer is going to there for 10 hours. I originally thought of just having her there for 8 hours, but she told me she normally likes to arrive 2 hours prior to leaving for the ceremony to take getting ready photos of the bride and groom and detail photos. I decided that was a good idea so that we wouldn’t be rushing trying to get all the photos we want. I told her though I don’t care much for photos on the dance floor.

Daughter's photographer arrived at our house for getting ready photos at 11 am and the second shooter met up with the men at the same time. We all arrived at the venue between 12:30-1 pm. First look with dad was at 1:15, with groom at 1:30. They took as many photos as possible until 2:45 when the wedding party went into "hiding" as guests began to arrive. Ceremony began at 3:30, followed by cocktail hour at 4, reception 5-10. They had about 11 hours with photographers and used every minute to a achieve an great outcome.

We are planning a sunrise wedding followed by a brunch. My FH and I are early birds. But we’re having a destination wedding and would like our guests to enjoy the area so we want our festivities to be done with by noon the latest. This would give our guests prime time to enjoy the resort (if they do choose to stay there).

I think we will only do a 4 hour shoot, it more economical and we are having a small wedding (max 25)

Thank you all so much. You have been extremely helpful! I think I'm just going to book the photographer for the whole day. Thankfully it's only like a $200 difference from 8 hours to all day.

    We are 20 days away!!

We are finalizing our timeline next week with the coordinator which will change as you go.Our ceremony starts at 5pm and goes til midnight. You work backwards from there. Our first look is at 130pm and starting the day at 9am. I have 4 bridesmaids and should take about 5 hours to get all ready and out the door.We had to add a second photographer to get the first look shots and didn't want one person there for 10-12 hours of shooting all day.
