Wedding Day Timeline? (Mainly photography?)

Rachel, on February 1, 2017 at 7:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi! I'm trying to create our wedding day timeline to give to our photographer. We have 6 hours of coverage time. We are doing pictures BEFORE the ceremony. Ceremony is at 5:30 pm, reception at 6:30 (It's a short ceremony, and we will take family pictures inbetween)

Since we are doing photos beforehand, what time should we start preparation? How much time should we plan with the photographer for ourselves/the wedding party photos before the ceremony?

Hello! Are you doing getting ready photos or just bridal party photos before the wedding? Cause with getting ready photos you want to have the photographer come an hour before you plan to be completely ready. If no getting ready photos, then maybe 1 hour or 1 1/2 hour before ceremony if your pictures will be away from ceremony site so you're there on time.

For 6 hours, I would say: skip the getting-ready photo's. They are "nice to have" I suppose, but you're not likely to frame them or put them in your wedding album (I wasn't going to have these but got a really good deal on an 8-hour photographer package, so thought why not)

I would say get your photographer to be there from about 3:30 / 4pm. About 30 minutes for pictures of the venue & decor, an hour for your photographs.

Your photographer will be able to give you some idea of how long they will take with these photographs. Mine sent me a timeline, which I've typed down below.

Preparation time (are you talking about hair & makeup?)- you're looking at an hour per bridesmaid and 2 hours for the bride (as per my beauty therapist).

I have an 8-hour photographer package, this is the general timeline:

    1pm - venue & decor

    1:45pm - getting ready

    3pm - bride & bridesmaids

    3:30pm - ceremony

    4:45-5:45 - pictures

    6pm - reception

My photographer made me a timeline, let me see if I can find it

    ETA:

3:00 PM Photographer arrives: shots of details and dress, getting in your dress, pictures of groom getting ready (restage), Ceremony and Reception details if space is ready

4:30 PM First look with bridal portraits

5:15 PM Ceremony (20 minutes planned)

5:45 PM Family formals at or near ceremony location

6:05 PM Bridal party photos followed by Bride and Groom "just married" portraits

    6:27 PM Sunset (sunset portraits)

    6:45 PM Grand entrance, first dance(s), toast/blessing,

    7:00 PM Buffet Open

7:30 PM Photojournalistic coverage including cake cutting, dancing, and/or games

    8:30 PM End photography services

We just talked to our photographer on Sunday about our timeline. Here it is:

3pm: Photographer arrives; shots of dress/final touches of getting ready

    3:15: FI arrives

    3:30: First look

    3:40(?): Family/BP formals

4:00: Portraits with just me and FI

4:30: Chilling out until ceremony -- she can photograph the venue and guests arriving; we will be hiding

    5:00: Ceremony

5:20: Post-ceremony sunset pictures (hopefully! weather permitting)

    5:20-6:20: Cocktail hour

    6:20: Dinner/toasts

7:30: First dances and then dance party begins!

    9:00: Photographer leaves

    10:00: Reception ends

We have the option of having her stay until the end of the reception, but I think 1.5 hours of reception photos is more than enough.
