Wedding Day Regrets

Brittany, on October 10, 2019 at 12:24 PM Posted in Married Life 2 15

Any newlyweds out there with any wedding day regrets?! Just wanted to reach out and say, although you spend almost a year (or more) planning your special day, rest Assur you things will likely not go as planned. One major regret I had during my wedding day was counting on my DJ to follow the timeline I had given him. Mind you this timeline was very clear and presented to him weeks before the big day. Anyway, the day of the wedding a freak blizzard hit that hadn't hit in September in almost 100 years, and even this one broke records. Basically, everything and anything that could go wrong, was going wrong, so me, being a stressed out bride, drank more than I typically would have. For this reason, during the reception, I was counting on the DJ to make important announces, yet that wasn't what actually happened, and by the time anyone had noticed, it was too late. Half of my guests were gone, including my photographer, by the time we finally cut our wedding cake, and the garter and bouquet were never even tossed Smiley sad . It was a series of unfortunate events, and of course, being the bride, I remember every single one of them. Don't get me wrong, the ceremony was unforgettable, I married the love of my life, my family and friends had a great time, we made some amazing memories, and also captured some beautiful photos in the winter storm, but just be prepared, nothing will go exactly as you expect it to. As a reminder to future brides, if you do not have an even coordinator on the day of your wedding, be mindful on what you drink before the reception (stick to champagne) and keep an eye on the timeline!

I know exactly how you feel and is very normal. Like you said not everything is going to go as plan. I had a coordinator and even things didn’t go as plan because of the weather, vendors and just situations beyond anyone’s control. At first I notice a lot of the things that went wrong because I planned it ALL. And although guest didn’t know if this specific tables was meant to be here or there I did and it bothered me that things didn’t go as I planned. Of course I let it go eventually because in the end it didn’t affect anything and even what went wrong was right and what really went wrong we now have as a story to tell. As time pass you’ll only remember the positive!

As someone who’s about 100 days out from the wedding I’m a bit panicked at what surprises the future holds for us 😅

    Yoice,

That is a good to hear. It was still a great wedding, just a lot of unexpected hiccups, but like you said, as time fades, the great memories and historic snowstorm will make this wedding unforgettable! Glad to know I'm not the only bride to have these thoughts!

    Toni,

Just be prepared! Your day will still be special and guests will only remember the love that you and your husband shared during those important moments! The main thing is the ceremony, and of course your first dance! Those went off without a hitch, and it was still a day we will always remember. Don't worry too much, just make sure to keep an eye on the time! That was my biggest regret.

Mine was photography. I don't think i gave enough time or chose the right location. In hindsight I should have gone somewhere closer and designated more time

    Melle,

I can relate there. My photographer did AMAZING with what she was dealt (which was a crazy winter storm), but due to the bad weather and drinking more than anticipated because of it, I lost track of time and pictures, which in hindsight I wish I would've tried harder to get certain family members! But again, wedding never go as planned haha.

My photographer was also amazing and I only regret not booking her for our welcome party. I’d love to have more pics of that!!

I don't think I have any regrets per se, but I would do a few things differently. Our family/group pictures were pretty rushed and we did them after bride & groom portraits. We should have done family/wedding party first THEN group portraits. We should have taken 1 or 2 more dance lessons and practiced our first dance more, we should have rehearsed for our welcome speech, and we should have taken a few more cell phone pictures with guests at the wedding rather than just the photographer. We were just dancing so much we didn't have time hahaha!

That's exactly what happened at our wedding, got lost in the moment, dancing and enjoying the evening, things got overlooked haha.

Haha! I think pictures were the only thing we missed out on by doing so much dancing, but our photographer stayed our entire wedding so she got a ton of cute dancing pictures even if they weren't posed. I think overall we got 1,200 edited pictures then another 300 from friends and family so I really can't complain hahaha! I'm just a perfectionist so obviously I had a few things I'd change if we did it again but overall I'm happy.

Oh those are some great memories! Our photographer could have stayed an extra hour or so from what our contract said, but left a little early due to the horrible September storm that hit in Spokane, WA on our wedding. We actually made national news, so I guess that makes up for it, and our photographer felt so bad she is taking more photos in April when we visit again Smiley smile . Nobody will ever forget our wedding at least! It was a fall wedding turned winter wonderland lol.

Oh and because our wedding was so recent, I won't actually get to see all of our pictures for another month, so still anxious to see what we did get!

As a bride we put so much pressure on ourselves and have such high expectations, it's so hard! And it's crazy we do that to ourselves. One thing I learned from my wedding is that something will inevitably go wrong, no matter what you think! I had this notion that everything was going to be perfect and there would be no issues, even though people warned me otherwise. I do have regrets and there were some things that popped up, nothing too major though. Personally I hate my wedding photos and wish I hired a different photographer (they just aren't good and I paid way too much for them to be bad). The DJ came up to me while we were in our procession line waiting to be introduced into the reception to ask what song I wanted played for the mother/son song (even though I filled out a questionnaire beforehand), i wanted to do a dollar dance (Polish girl her) but didn't get to because I relied on my sister-in-law to bring the bag to put the money in. That's one thing I wish I had relayed to the DJ in advance, but who knows, maybe he wouldn't have said anything or waited too long like your DJ. It's so hard to be on top of everything on your wedding day and still be present in the moment! The most important thing is that you get to marry the love of your life. As far as not doing your garter or bouquet toss, I would say that's not too big a deal because honestly most people don't pay attention to it anyways. And girl, your photos are sooo gorgeous!!! Seriously, incredible. Even if things did go the way you planned and your DJ was on top of it, I don't think anyone would have noticed anyway because of the crazy storm.

    Destiny,

We are so thankful for the pics! The funny thing is, although our pictures are beautiful, nobody understood the chaos of a day that we actually had! Haha. The storm really played a huge part, but I am grateful that our pictures were recognized 😊.

Those snow storm pictures made for some of the most memorable wedding pics I've ever seen. SO cool. (No pun intended lol.)
