Wedding day makeup- hygiene question

Future Mrs. T, on May 27, 2020 at 4:13 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
Hey all. Initially I was planning on just doing my own makeup for my wedding but I was convinced to get it professionally done. I actually want to do it as a way of getting pampered on my special day. I’ve never gotten my makeup done professionally before so I’m unfamiliar with the process. Have you gotten yours done professionally? Either for your own wedding or another special event?

How do you know if your makeup artists are cleaning their brushes in between every client? Especially given the current climate have any of your makeup artists mentioned their new procedures? I just want to know if anyone else has come across this and wonder what your makeup artists are doing so I know what to ask for/expect when I hire mine. Thanks!

Hi there! I used to work for a lady that did Bridal
make up on a big scale in our area. A true professional will have spray bottles of alcohol to spray on things like lipstick, eyeliner things like that. All the brushes will be clean before she even gets to your event. She will have disposable mascara wands, sponges things like that.

In my opinion, you need to have a trial run with whoever you hire before your big day. I am too much of a control freak, and to be honest I know what I’m doing, to let someone else do my make up. If you haven’t gotten it done before, it will put you at ease if you have a trial first

Thanks! I definitely want to have a trial done. I only have two bridesmaids and mom who would want their makeup done professionally as well. I just want to make sure it’s clean. Not only but also especially because of what’s happening. Just overall general cleanliness.

Most people offering these services consider themselves true professionals and concerns like yours, cleanliness specifically, could ruin their reputation and destroy their business, so they take it very, very seriously.

Like a PP said, make sure you have a trial run so you're comfortable with the artist you've chosen, but I truly believe you have no reason to worry about the cleanliness aspect.

Enjoy being pampered, you deserve it Smiley flower

At least in our state, salons have some of the strictest hygiene requirements to stick to, more so then fitness centers or other shared use facilities we generally don't think too much about. A professional makeup artist will use disposable wands and sponges and thoroughly clean brushes between all clients. Now, the requirements are even stricter and no business wants to risk being the one that caused an outbreak, so places should be extra diligent.

I just did a trial run with my makeup artist. She uses the single-use mascara brushes, eyeshadow applicators, and lip gloss applicators. I’m sure if you asked your artist she wouldn’t be offended!

I have my hair and make up done several times. Each time they used same process for cleaning as in a salon. The make up artists actually had new brushes and q-tip type applicators when she did my eyes and lips. I was comfortable with their process. I would simply ask in advance what their hygiene and cleaning process of their tools will be.

Pandemic or not, every professional make-up artist uses clean brushes on each client. You should discuss this with them before hiring. If you are still worried, then buy the brushes/sponges and all cosmetics you will be using. This should also lower the price of the service. Have at least 1 trial before the wedding. Do not be afraid to say you don't like it or to try new things. Getting make-up professionally done is a great learning experience as well as a relaxing time.
