Wedding Dance Order?? Huh?

The O-fficial MrsJoseph!, on August 30, 2010 at 11:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

And I'm totally clueless - what order does the wedding dances at the reception process in?

I've usually heard it is the Bride/Groom, then the Father/Daughter, then the Mother/Son...

BUT

I also have seen where the Bride/Groom dance then includes everyone else to get up and dance...would they then go sit back down again? Do I reverse the order? DO I just not let people get up and dance until all three are complete?

Clueless...

I think it's up to you. As long as the DJ knows, he can announce what's going on. We did our dance as soon as we were introduced. Then we had the "Parent" dance after dinner and right before we cut the cake. Then we opened it up to everyone

That's what the DJ is for...and why the consultation is important. combine his expertise and your wishes and your good to go! Let the professionals we pay so much for do their job and take some of the stress off yourself Smiley smile

Totally your choice and, yes, definitely discuss things with your DJ. Traditionally, the Bride and Groom's first dance "officially" opens up the dance floor. But I've occasionally seen guests spontaneously dance during cocktail hour.

Well, we had our first dance after supper and after we cut the cake. The order went like this: Bride& Groom, Father & Daughter, then Mother & Son, then after it was open for everyone!

Yeah sometimes they're spaced out. because usually the bride & groom do their first dance right after the introductions at the start of the reception, and then dinner is served. we're doing our 3 spotlight dances right in a row because we can't do our first dance at the start of the reception, so after introductions we'll have toasts, then dinner, then dances, then dessert, then the dance floor opens.
