Wedding color combos

Courtney, on December 28, 2019 at 12:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 32
How did everyone decide their wedding color combinations for what everyone should wear?? Our colors are navy , gold and deep red. My wedding dress is gold and my FH will be wearing like a cream/ivory color with accented gold. What should everyone else wears as far as bridesmaids , groomsmen & MOH and best man? We’re having a hard time decide. I would like my bridesmaids to wear red while my MOH wears navy and his groomsmen wear navy and Best man In ivory/cream like him but he doesn’t think that will look good. I don’t want anyone else wearing gold besides his accented gold so that I/we can stand out. Any other color combination suggestions? Open to all!

We only had two main colors which were red and black. We also had two accent colors which were silver and blush. My dress was white with sparkles and silver beading. My bouquet was blush and red roses with baby's breath. The bridesmaids & groomswoman worn red dresses. The bridesmaids and groomswoman had red roses with baby's breath. My maid of honor had a smaller version of my bowueut so she stood out. My husband, the groomsmen, and bridesman all worn black tuxes. The groomsmen & bridesman worn red vests, red ties, red pocket squares. The best man for a red vest, red tie, and silver pocket square. My husband worn a silver vest, silver tie, and silver pocket square to match the beading on my dress. What if you did something similar to what we did. Have your husband and the groomsmen all wear navy, but your husband have a gold tie, vest and packet square. Have the groomsmen wear red ties, vests and pocket squares. For the best man you could have him wear a different color tie, vest or pocket square so he stands out. The maid of honor could wear a blue dress like you want. I would think this would be a good compromise so that the groomsmen and your husband are in consistent tux colors like your husband wants, but it would still enable you to stand out like you want. I think this would be a good compromise.

Or if you want all of your girls to be in red you could do a solid red for the bridesmaids and a sparkly red for the maid of honor. That way they are all in the same color, but your maid of honor still stands out. I personally agree with your fiance about not liking the groom in a completely different tux color than the groomsmen as I think it makes it look disjointed.

That’s a good idea! I have no problem with the navy , it’s just he doesn’t want navy suits for some reason. I’m not sure if I can convince him , but he would prefer black. I would prefer the ivory or navy since black isn’t one of our colors , but I’m not sure if that matters or not or how it would look.

I would either do navy or ivory since black isn't one of your colors. I personally like navy better, but that's because I'm not a huge fan of ivory. Another reason I wouldn't do ivory if you are doing red and navy is because your colors would look like red, white and blue.

I’m wondering how it would look if he and the groomsmen wore like a ivory/cream colored suit , and maybe the bridesmaids wear navy with red bouquets and groomsmen have red ties or bow ties and he and the best man just stand out with a different tie style?

I think it would look fine. I personally prefer that the ties match the color of dress that the bridesmaids are wearing. But that's a personal preference. Would your fiance be willing to wear ivory suits since he wants black?

Oh that makes sense, so we could do that & just a different color vest! Thank you for your help. I’d have to ask him about the ivory suits but I know he would like to wear an ivory suit so maybe he won’t mind them wearing it too.

I would add that since your fiance is the one wearing the suit that he should be the one to ultimately pick out what he wants to wear just like you got to pick out what dress you worn. If he really doesn't like any other color than black I would let him wear black. If that is the case, I would personally eliminate navy from my color scheme and make black as part of my color scheme as well as I don't like navy and black together.

How about this? MOH in navy, maids in red, groom in ivory, BM in ivory and navy to match MOH, maids and men in red - but still coordinated with groom, BM, and MOH. Only you and groom in gold. Though I'd have the maids wear gold shoes and jewelry and the men wear gold cuff links. Pocket squares to match the woman they are matched to - so gold for groom, navy for BM, and red for Gmen.

What about black suits/tuxes with navy accents. Or red accents. Whichever color is more predominant in your color scheme. And the ladies wear either navy or blue

This is a good suggestion as he wants them to wear black suits instead of ivory. He doesn’t want it to seem to close to us as he wants only us in gold. I guess we have to decide if whether navy or red is more dominant. What color could I do for bouquets? The opposite of what the bridesmaid dresses are?

Yes First step is decide which color is more important. I made my bouquets already. My colors are ivory, purple, and gold. My BMs are wearing purple and all bouquets are all the same color scheme (white and purple) except my bouquet is more intricate and is bigger and has more greenery. For example if you pick navy dresses you could either do full red bouquets or blue flowers with small hints of red. Same for Red dresses either full blue or maybe red with hints of blue.

That’s a good idea! Only thing is , he’s adamant about black suits for his men so I may have to settle with that and pick one color for bridesmaid and just a different dress. Or how would black suits for groomsmen, navy for MOH and red for bridesmaids with the best man with navy tie to match MOH? Then I’d just have think of bouquet colors..

That’s a good idea. I never thought having the bride’s bouquet more full than everyone else’s or just doing small hints of a color. I’m going to look more into that! Thank you!
