Wedding Clock Myths

Chasity, on July 29, 2020 at 9:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25
Hello Brides! We are 9 days from our wedding day. Yay! Our officiant just emailed us asking if we wanted to change our start time to 5:30 instead of 5:00 so that the clock is moving upward during the ceremony. My fiancé and I and our parents have never heard of this. I’m wondering if other brides heard of this or considered this when finalizing your wedding ceremony timeline.

That is crazy lol. I’m not superstitious or anything. I would ignore it.

I have never heard of this. My fiance and I determined our timeline based on reception end time, and worked backwards from there, taking our venue's rules into account (ceremony must be completed by 5pm).

Oh wow I have never heard of that before either. Is the logic that you will have a successful marriage if the hand is moving up?

While researching on how to word my wedding invites, I learned of this ceremony timing. It is so the hands move upwards towards the heavens or beginning marriage with the hand moving up. After reading that, I checked a friend’s invite and he had it scheduled for 4:30pm.

Just when you think you've heard it all...that's bizarre lol. Ours is scheduled for 2:30 (I think?) but it has nothing to do with which direction the clock is moving. I don't believe in superstitions.

Yes I've never hear of it. I wouldn't change it if you don't want to.

I’ve heard of this before, but didn’t take it into consideration when building our timeline.

I’ve heard of this but we started our ceremony at 4. I’m not superstitious.

I have never heard of this before. We got married at 5:30, so maybe that is why no one mentioned it to us? But I would get married whenever you want to and ignore the superstition.

My FMIL told us this!!! We did move our time from 3pm to 3:30pm, but it was MONTHS ago--before invites were even drafted up. I say, it's your call! There's plenty of superstitions that people don't acknowledge anymore--like the groom seeing the bride before the wedding, only wearing a white dress if you're a virgin, etc.

It's an old wives tale. I heard of it when I was a kid but I've never met anyone who took it seriously. If you're not superstitious you don't need to follow it.

I mean...You probably already mailed the invitations which means guests would have to wait an additional 30 minutes for the ceremony to begin. I think that is quite an inconvenience.
