Wedding Ceremony

I remember when I was younger, I went to a wedding that featured vows and also this one ritual with water, where water from each person's home was poured into a bowl as an example of unity. I also know people who have done unity cords and candles. So adding a ritual on top of normal vows is fine so long as the rest of your ceremony isn't terribly long.

Hubby and I did our own vows and a sand ceremony at our wedding and it was great!

I think you can do both at your ceremony. Your ceremony is an important part of the day so put in there what you want to put in .

Every time I’ve seen unity ceremonies done, they have always been in addition to vows. Doing both wouldn’t be strange at all, as they represent different things. The unity ceremony represents two hearts and two families coming together, and your vows are your commitments to one another.

I don't think it's weird at all to do both! My fiance and I are writing our own vows, and also doing a unity ceremony. They're not the same thing, so it's totally fine to include both.

Not weird, it's like doing vows and unity candle. I'm doing vows and a couple of traditions within mine. Enjoy your day and do what feels good and right to you.
