Wedding canceled due to covid, rentals refusing refund

Dawn, on May 26, 2020 at 10:20 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 5
My wedding venue canceled due to covid 19. It’s been a heartbreaking journey and the face that the chair rental place refuses a refund is just salt in the wound! Someone please offer me advise! We live out of state so we can’t even go there and settle this! How do I ensure they return our money. We didn’t ask for this to happen and the cancellation is not our fault! Please any and all advise is needed!

I disputed charges with my cc company because ours refused to give deposits back despite states shutting down on all non-essential services.

Now this may be tricky if the state never shut down and the services still could have been rendered.

Yes. The bank will have to write up a statement. I would talk about how to contract was breached due to not being able to perform services on "date." Talk about CDC, WHO Nas state regulations, etc.

We submitted a claim via our credit card company because we cancelled our honeymoon flights in April and still haven’t received a refund from the airline. Try your CC company.

As others have advised. If you paid with a credit card you should be in luck and be able to dispute the charges. I assume the rental company is also based in New York? You might want to look over the contract, but most likely you will get your money back if you dispute with your CC company (although it might take awhile)! Good luck!
