Wedding Cake Flavor Help

Cora, on February 20, 2021 at 4:25 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
Hi everyone! My fiancé and I had a cake tasting today with a local baker that makes really beautiful cakes. The tasting was a little non-standard because of COVID. The baker made us a to go box that included the six most common cake flavors (in cupcake form) and then 6 containers of the most popular fillings. My fiancé and I narrowed it down to a few of our favorites, but can’t decide past that.

So, I’m curious, what is everyone else doing or what have you done for your wedding cake? Is it common to have different tiers of the cake being different flavors or is that weird?

We did 2 different flavors with 2 different fillings but I've also been to plenty of weddings with just one cake flavor. It's a personal choice!

We will have three tiers, all different flavors (from bottom to top: chocolate w/peanut butter buttercream, almond with almond buttercream, and strawberry with cream cheese buttercream).

We will be having 3 different flavors with 3 different fillings in each of our 3 tiers. The more variety the better IMO!

We're doing two flavors! Lemon cake with pineapple curd was both of our favorite and we have a tier of vanilla with vanilla buttercream for those who have a bit more simple palette, since we know a handful of our family members do

We loved a lemon/blueberry flavor and a chocolate/espresso flavor and ended up going with the lemon because it was light, bright, and reminded us more of spring (getting married in April). If we’d had a fall or winter wedding, we probably would have gone with the chocolate one! Not a rule you have to go by, but it helped me with my indecisiveness, so maybe you could use a similar strategy to narrow yours

We just had our cake tastings 2 weeks ago & it was amazing!!! We’re having a 3 tier cake & each tier will be a different flavor. First tier will be an almond infused cake with almond cream cheese filling with a drizzle of strawberry compote; 2nd tier will be a churro cake with a salted caramel filling; 3rd tier will be a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling.

We have two tiers with buttercream icing which most of our guests like... 1 thing to remember is a lot of ppl waste so much money on the cake because you end up with so much of it left. My husband doesn’t even eat sweets so to me it wasn’t realistic to get a huge cake 🎂. We did a cake for 65 ppl then had cupcakes and other treats

Havong more than one flavor is very common and appeals to more people that way.

We’re doing 3 different flavors! We’re doing a 2-tier cake in 1 flavor and then 2 sheet cakes in the other 2. It’ll provide variety and save money - the tiered cake is $6ish per slice and sheet cakes are $2.5ish per slice!

We’re doing a 4-tiered cake with two different flavors. Two tiers of vanilla almond and two tiers if strawberry. I don’t think it is weird to have different flavors, it gives guests more options in case they don’t like one particular flavor.

When we got married, we had three tiers, three flavors. I, personally, fell in love with a dark chocolate cake with cherry and chocolate truffle filling - but I worried that many guests wouldn't enjoy such a rich flavor. So I chose two more that each offered something a little different, one lighter and fruity and one lighter and sweet.

I plan on doing something similar for our vow renewal - currently, I have my eyes on vanilla hazelnut praline and dark chocolate orange, just from their descriptions. Again, I'm hoping for something light and sweet, and something dark and fruity for variety.

We had two flavors we liked a lot. One we are using for our main cake, it will be a devil's food chocolate with bailey's filling and buttercream. The second one will be like a groom's cake, a single tier, and it will be carrot cake with I think cream cheese icing/filling. We figured chocolate is more of a generic crowed pleaser whereas carrot cake is more specialized, hence out choices.

When my sister got married back in 2005 she had 3 diff flavor combos for each tier and I remember thinking that was the coolest thing! They saved their favorite flavors for the top so they could enjoy it on their anniversary. My fiancé and I are doing a cookie cake since we aren't huge cake fans but I think you can do whatever you want- its your day!
