Wedding Bar: Open, Cash, or None?

The Bride, on July 19, 2019 at 8:55 AM

At our wedding my husband and I had an open bar with top shelf liquor and we spent a pretty penny for it but our guests were happy about it. At your wedding are you having an open bar, cash bar, or no bar at all? Why?

    Ok...

I didn’t say anything bad about it. I just said I’d never heard of it because it isn’t a thing in my area/social circle, even for those who have been through AA.

We are having an open bar (top shelf) and it was included in our package that we chose when we booked our venue.

You do realize that a cash bar will not stop someone with an alcohol problem from getting drunk, right?

You do realize I said I'm not paying for a Cash Bar.... They are lucky I paid for the Bartender to be there.

Again, the questions was should I do sodas since I am doing a Cash Bar?

We are paying for the Sodas next week. Thank you for your help

Right! I've never understood cash bar helping to deter people from drinking. Makes no sense.

We are having a dry wedding. Our venue is an event center on a native reservation and they don't allow alcohol. We will be going to a wine and spirit lounge after the reception though.

We are having an open bar. We never considered not having alcohol for the wedding. We have always enjoyed the open bar at the weddings we have been to, and we would like our guests to feel the same.

I completely understand. You'll save a lot of money by not having a bar.

I agree that a cash bar will help people limit themselves. I have never seen people sneak in outside liquor by I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

I think that is a good compromise.

My venue also had various packages and the one we chose included the open bar.

I had only been to one other wedding as an adult before getting married and they also had an open bar so it was a no brainer for my husband and I.

Were doing a combinations of open and cash bar. Our open bar will have a $500 limit and once that limit has been reached, it will be cash bar.

That's pretty cool. I don't think my venue had an option like that.

We thought it was pretty cool too, our families drink but not all of them are big drinkers so we figured it was a good way to please everyone!

I'm having an open bar. Wine, beer, vodka, gin, rum, etc. Our families are big drinkers, and we couldn't imagine not having an open bar. It was the best decision we could have made.
