Wedding Bar: Open, Cash, or None?

The Bride, on July 19, 2019 at 8:55 AM

At our wedding my husband and I had an open bar with top shelf liquor and we spent a pretty penny for it but our guests were happy about it. At your wedding are you having an open bar, cash bar, or no bar at all? Why?

I've never been to a wedding at a winery but it sounds really cool.

    I also think that's a good compromise.

Each wine bottle has a year on it: we went with 1, 5, 10, 15 years. Then at each anniversary we drink to the happiness. So we needed wine that would age well, and we wanted the same wine for each year - so we could see how it aged with time (just like us!).

We grabbed a few paint markers so guests were able to sign the bottles.

That's super expensive! I hope you included this bar issue in your venue review.

Open bar. We will be having 3 different wines, 3 different beers, and 2 signature cocktails.

Lol, I completely agree that most people like to drink a lot during social gatherings. I also agree that some guests will talk about your wedding and be reluctant to dance and participate without alcohol.

Open bar. In our social circle, it’s 90% open bars and 10% cash bars (when we were younger a few friends had cash bars). I had never even heard of a dry wedding until I came on WW so I’m always surprised by the number of people who choose that route.

I also had never heard of a "dry wedding' but I can completely understand why some couple's opt to do that.

No bar. My FH and I don't drink and neither does his family. My family does drink, some of the rather heavily, so it's just best for everyone that there be no bar lol

No, were the oldest of our cousins so many of them aren't 21 yet, our older relatives don't really drink, many of our friends are in the phase of having kids so they won't drink either because of nursing or trying to get pregnant. We invited kids. Even if I served alcohol less than a quarter of my guests would touch it, it'd be more wasteful than anything.
I know Muslims who didn't serve alcohol and some strict christains don't always serve alcohol, I'm surprised you haven't heard of it before.

Some people opted out because a lot of people cannot control their liquor or have been through AA programs. Just saying.

We are doing a Cash Bar that is a way for people to control how much they are drinking. If we was doing Open they will going up there at least 5-6 times. I have been to a Open Bar and my fiancé and I was thoughtful and only had 2 a piece. We did pay for the Champagne Toast. Plus you be surprise how many ppl sneak in their own drinks or go to the car. We have been to a wedding like that before.

    To each its own.

We are having beer/wine/soda/coffee/tea provided to guests and the rest is cash bar ! Would love to do an open bar but that adds on thousands of dollars ...
