Wedding anniversary gift

Monica, on May 10, 2021 at 1:36 PM Posted in Married Life 0 16
How many of you plan to follow the typical traditional suggested wedding anniversary gifts (1st year paper, 5th year is wood, 10th anniversary is aluminum/tin)

Our 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up (will be 15years together). Im trying to think of what to get him. Unless I find something super worthwhile to keep that’s paper, I wont be following the typical anniversary gifts.

Paper is an easy one to me. Books, photos, gift certificates, even a nice handwritten letter

I will probably jokingly give my FH a ream of printer paper on our first anniversary and then, after we have a laugh, give him his real gift. You could give him a card and call that your 'paper' or just decide to not do that tradition at all.

We didn't follow that tradition. We didn't even exchange gifts for our 1 year anniversary. We didn't give each other cards, so I guess in a way we did give each other paper without meaning to? Lol. We also got the top layer of our cake recreated by the bakery, and we celebrated with his parents, who were in our small covid bubble.

I did not do this but it's kind of cute because it gives you a better idea of what to get them for the anniversary gifts

I write letters to some people regularly, and hubby does so less but to his two oldest brothers, and their families, and a few aunts. They moved back to Italy and Austria in the 50's and 60's. Usually each of us gets it as a gift. Yhe first full year after our wedding, we had used all that was monogrammed, and that printed with our names singly, and note cards, and informal note cards. Whoa, I had forgotten what nice bond paper costs. But I like writing on it . All the rest on the list seem way out of date.

There are two lists, one "traditional" and one "modern" (though a lot of the modern gifts seem pretty old fashioned to me!). So if you need more inspiration, check this out.

We don't really give each other anniversary gifts (we choose how to celebrate together, but don't exchange gifts usually). Neither of us is much for *things*, so we rarely do gifts for holidays or birthdays either. We do buy each things we know the other will love/need when we come across them. But that's just how we roll.

On the other hand, my brother does like to follow the anniversary gift list but he always thinks outside the box and gets something inspired by the list but is really creative. I love hearing what he gets her each year; the gifts are always really sweet.

I have a lott of paper memories from back in the day. I used to write him letters every day in high school. And used to make him hand written cards with pictures. I put a lot of that stuff in a book a long time ago. So if I were to do paper, I wanted something worth keeping. I found a person on etsy that does watercolor paintings so I am leaning towards it.

By the time I discovered it, we were already five years in, so I didn't. But I've used them to brainstorm ideas for gifts for other anniversaries, such as a guitar (wood), a print for his office (paper), etc.

We had a Covid elopement last year, and our wedding celebration this year is two weeks after our anniversary so that's probably our "gift" this year. I will be very surprised if I get something from my husband and don't think he is expecting a gift at all. We do plan on going to a nice restaurant (hubby will officially be two weeks after his final Covid vaccine the same weekend as our anniversary) to celebrate one year of marriage.

We have a rescue dog that we adopted right around the same time we moved in together and he's a huge part of our life. While we are pretty sure we know what breed mix he is I have always been curious so I ended up getting a dog DNA test and secretly swabbed our dog and sent in the sample for testing. My plan was to get the results back and gift them to my husband for our "paper" anniversary. But I just realized that I think you get the results online, not in the mail, and I want us to learn the results together (and have it be on "paper" to go with the anniversary gift theme), so I might have to enlist a friend to print out the results and sneak them into an envelope for me!

Our elopement anniversary is coming up in just about 2 weeks. We eloped on our actual anniversary. Wedding celebration is in October. I bought the watercolor painting that I posted ^^ up there. We always say happy 4th to each other throughout the year so I added the wording Happy June 4th: 1 year married, 15 years together. I also bought him a really nice designer shirt.
I figure its a milestone anniversary for us so this time I will get him a nice gift. I dont care if he gifts me anything because the watercolor painting is kind of for both of us. We will probably go out to dinner.

Our baby shower is tomorrow, anniversary is in 2weeks. So im wondering should I give him the shirt early and let him decide if he wants to wear it tomorrow for Baby shower or for our anniversary or both.

Our 1st Anniversary is coming up on the 20th! I followed the traditional anniversary gifts and had our 1st dance/song lyrics put on a sheet of paper and framed.

We used Embark, and it came through email with a cute video and the option to guess which breeds it was. Don't know which brand you used, or if that would even be anything you guys cared about that you might miss if you have them printed instead.

We went through Embark too, but the results didn't come in yet (so we missed the opportunity to actually "unveil" the results on our anniversary). I did tell my husband though, and while I think he kinda thinks it was a silly waste of money, he has been going to our dog "what are you made of?" lately and I think is actually excited to see the results. He even asked me this morning if there were any updates. So I think it will be fun, and we'll probably just look at the results together on the computer when they come in.
