Wedding album from photographer vs. shutterfly

Tiffany, on June 21, 2017 at 10:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

I'm weighing the pros and cons of purchasing an album from my photographer vs. just using shutterfly.... my mother thinks I should just go with shutterfly... (plan to give albums as a few gifts, and want to personalize them) which I'm cool with. Saves money and makes it more personal.

But I am asking myself if I will be upset if I don't purchase at least one "coffee table" album for myself from the photographer.

What have recent brides done? How do you feel about it?

Is your photographer giving you high resolution photos? If so you will be fine with shutterfly.

Shutterfly and snapfish offer so many options and cheap. I did the canvas prints for Christmas and they look awesome and they came right off my phone. Also, if you go to a craft store they offer the albums that you would get from your Photograher.

I would recommend mpix.com over shutterfly. The quality is a lot better, and they are still pretty affordable compared to purchasing an album from your photographer.

You should get at least one album for yourself and make the Shutterfly (or walgreens) ones for gifts.

I had some photos printed through Shutterfly and Walgreens, and you can see the difference in quality... (Walgreens is so much clearer. It was the exact same photo. I had a free 8x10 print on Shutterfly so I used it and then FMIL wanted the same photo in 8x10 so I used Walgreens)

    Walgreens has photo books too

I did mpix for my engagement pictures and love it! I'm debating the same thing with wedding photos though because my photographer will have hundreds of pictures so can I really narrow them down to 20 pages worth for the price or should I just shell it out to my photographer and let her do it?

My cousin did both - one through photographer for them, and then made their own as well for family.

It is cheaper to do it yourself, but the quality of the one from the photographer was amazing (like, the cover itself).

His wife did mention to me that when you do it through your photographer, it is basically the pictures that THEY choose and you have little input. You can only make one or two changes.

My photographer recommended Nations Photo Lab. You may be disappointed with the quality from Shutterfly.

We used Shutterfly for our engagement photo/guest book and I'm happy with how it turned out. My photographer recommended mpix as well but I had already put a lot of time into the Shutterfly book.

We did our engagement album from Shutterfly and love it!! so easy to customize and is high quality.. I'd recommend them and they are also reasonable with all their discounts.

I've been looking at Artifact Uprising, which seems to me to be a nice middle ground between using Shutterfly and having the photographer's album. Our photographer charges $1000 for a wedding album, which I just can't justify -- Artifact Uprising looks like really nice quality and you can get the "coffee table" wedding album for around $150.

Our photographer said we get unlimited changes to our album before print. So it's not just photos they choose. It depends on your photog

I used Mixbook to make my own. I upgraded to lay-flat pages, and to a larger size, and added a few extra pages. They offered a 40% off coupon, and I paid around $70 including shipping. I highly recommend.

Our photographers included the coffee table album in their package and there was no discount for opting out of it. Then we are provided with a USB and full rights to all the photos. This USB is going to be used to make the other albums we plan on giving to the parents/BP. We will probably go to Joann's or Michaels and get the albums and then just print the pictures ourselves at Walgreens or something like that

I second Aleigh with Mixbook. Our photography package included one coffee table book, and the photographer let us choose our favorite pics. We'll keep that one, and then I made a few more as gifts myself.

I just tried to make a guest book on shutterfly and the cost was almost $100.00 -- my photographer only costs a little more than that so I went with him instead. It up to you -- because my photographer is relatively inexpensive, I went that route. I know plenty who used shutterfly and it was just as good.

I think mixbook is better quality than shutterfly.

Our package included the pro album from our photographer, so we are getting that one. Since we only got to put so many pictures in it and the pro album's focus is on amazing shots of us and the big moments, it was always my plan to make Shutterfly albums (though I may check out some of these other companies), that included more of our getting ready pics, a more complete look at the ceremony, and all of the fun pictures from the reception because the photographer really did get a lot of great candids with guests.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I am up to using other companies (like shutterfly) it's like another 400$ for a small album and 1500$ for a full size one....

But the good news it it seems like you don't compromise on quality when not purchasing from the photographer

Try zno. They offer high quality flush mount albums but at a fraction of what photographers charge with a ton of options. Not as cheap as Shutterfly but you'll get MUCH better quality.
