FH and I are on the fence about hosting an afterparty after our wedding. Mostly it’s cause the reception will end at midnight. If we do the after party at the venue, we could extend the open bar for another hour and were looking to add some snack foods. But we would also need a guesstimate of how many people would stay for an after party that wouldn’t end until about 1 am (but at least the wedding is on a Friday). We could also have people Uber/Lyft or walk (about 15 mins) to a bunch of bars in D.C.

Did anyone else do or attend an after party after the wedding and if so was it worth it? Did a lot of people hang around for the after party?

I suggest seeing how you feel the night of. That's how it's always been at weddings I've attended or been in. At the end of the night, bride or groom will either suggest extending the party to a bar, or they go on their happy way. I wouldn't "host" anything that you have to plan. That could be money you're essentially wasting.

Our reception ends at 12:30. I think people will be tired after 5 1/2 hours of open bar, my mom thinks they'll want to keep partying since it will be NYE.

I think we are going to just spread by word of mouth that anyone who wants to is welcome to come back to my parents' suite. we'll have the leftover liquor (supplying our own) and order pizzas.

We aren't planning anything formal. I know we have a huge group of family and friends staying at the hotel so I'm sure some people will continue drinking back at the hotel together. I know my parents/friends/family always bring things to drink after weddings so the party can continue.

Depends on your crowd. My reception was over at 10:30pm. There was a bar right in the parking lot of the hotel we blocked rooms off at. I didn't do anything formal, I pretty much just warned the bar that there might be a large group coming in that night but it was just word of mouth for whomever wanted to keep partying. I'd say about 30-40 people showed up, and at least 20 of us closed the bar out at 2am lol.
