I've always wanted a beautiful wedding in the countryside; white dress, good food, drinks, dancing, the whole shebang. However, my Husband and I were cornered into an early marriage that ended up being a same-day appointment courthouse thing. I don't feel like giving too many details regarding the circumstances of our sudden marriage, so all you need to know is that 1) we are both Active Duty military and that was the root cause of our situation and 2) for our specific relationship, there was NO WAY POSSIBLE we could have waited for marriage until the day when a "real" wedding was possible.

We still very much both want to have some semblance of a nice wedding and are currently making moves toward having something on our second anniversary. All of our family is aware of the situation and most have given approval of our plans, so what I need help with is how to best plan this event. I'm thinking of doing a vow renewal that functions mostly like a smaller wedding?

Tina and Brooke, thanks for being sweet and having my back! But don't sweat the snark. It cracked me up when OP pointed out my typo and that was the moment I knew she was trolling.

I officiate many vow renewals. Also re-enactments for a variety of reasons (military, health, insurance, etc.). The couple gets to exchange vows and sometimes rings and it is very meaningful to them and their guests. If you have any specific questions, e-mail me.

This is a vow renewal (or celebration of marriage) - just be sure that you continue to call it this instead of a "wedding" - your wedding was the day you became legally married. Thank you for your service to our country and I hope that this turns out to be a special celebration for you.

You plan it just like you would plan a wedding. Start with determining your budget, your guest list, your venue.

Yeah, because it's a great idea to lie to a venue about your party.

Omg same! Hubs and I are both active duty and we are already married. We are having our actual wedding in August, he gets back from deployment in June. I'm still calling it a wedding, and planning it like one. We're having the whole ceremony and reception so it's still a wedding to me Bc it's what I wanna call it. Lol But def start with your budget, and your guest list. You might have a hard time with your guest list, I know we both did Bc a lot of our friends pcs and some of them are gonna be on deployment at that time so it's a little upsetting. But you go girl!

This is your day. Call it whatever you want. If friends and family already know, then they know. If it feels good to call it some kind of celebration, then go all in. Smiley smile
