In response to Alyssachu, no she did not ask about budget in advance, however we've been friends for 10 years. She's well aware of my financial struggle, as a single mother of two. I think it's great, that you do not think $200 is expensive. However, I do. My daughters dress, I paid $40 down, and $20 a month until I paid it off. It took me 9 months to pay it off. I do not have the luxury to that that with the bridesmaid dress, due to her just now picking what dress she wanted us to wear. I was simply asking for suggestions; not condescending remarks.

Is it a fairly new dress? Maybe you can call a few local shops and see if it is discounted or on a sale?

Oooook. Alyssachu wasn't being condescending- you should've let your friend know your budget. Just because she's aware of your financial obligations doesn't mean she knows what you can spend on a dress.

Hey Julie, i don't know of any sites like that BUT are the bridesmaids required to wear that exact dress?

If not, maybe check out amazon. You can find a lot of gorgeous dresses for $30-$50.

Sorry for reacting like I did. I have been extremely upset of this. Yes, we are required to wear the same dress. I have called around to local shops, all of them are giving me the same price. When I say she's my friend, she's my best friend. I promise you, she knows my situation. We talked about the expense of the dress, just last night. As much as I hate to, I'm going to have to back out of being a BM. Thank you everyone for the suggestions,

Also, I want to point out that there were no $$ conversations before she picked the dress, because I was unaware that I would be responsible for purchasing the dress. My daughter bought all of the dresses for wedding party. I have never had a wedding, or been in one, so I was oblivious to all of it.

I'm also looking for a used bridesmaid dress for a wedding I'm in this September. I've been checking eBay, tradesy, preownedweddingdresses.com, and poshmark on a regular basis. You can also try googling "used bridesmaid dresses" and several sites come up, but the ones I mentioned seemed to add new dresses the most. Good luck!
