Weather Schmeather

Mandy, on May 14, 2019 at 9:50 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 25

90% chance of severe storms this Saturday (wedding day). Also, I'm in tornado alley. Also, there was a severe tornado about 2 weeks ago 4 miles from my venue. It's raining as I type this. I'm trying to stay positive but I really wanted to have an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. Looks like I'm going to have to move it all indoors and probably not get any outdoor pictures at this rate..and guests may not come if the weather is bad. *sigh* I haven't really given much thought to an indoor ceremony at the venue because that means setting it up, then flipping it for the reception.

Try and stay positive, it will be a beautiful day no matter what and rain is good luck! Try not to dwell on it or stress over it. I know that is easier said than done but it sounds like you are trying to stay positive which is good. Even if it does rain maybe you will get some time in between where you can snap some outdoors pictures. It will all work out and you are going to have an amazing day!

Yes, I'm trying to stay positive. I'm hoping the rain holds off until a little later in the evening.. Even if we have to do the ceremony indoors, I'd still like some outdoor pictures.

Definitely. You could also buy those cute clear umbrellas for a few shots, I think those are so adorable! I will be thinking of you and praying you get some time to get some outdoor shots. The weather is so unpredictable, you could definitely get some clear skies!

I second clear umbrella photos. Those always look cute!

Your caterer will be able to turn the space around from ceremony to reception, while your guests are at cocktail hour. They do this all the time. Also, our venue said that if it’s raining & we’re not able to take outdoors photos, we can come with our photographer on any other day (when they don’t have weddings) & do an outdoor photo shoot. I know it’s not ideal because you have to get ready all over again & get your photographer, but I would consider it if the weather is really bad all day.

Also there is still some time until Saturday, weather changes all the time, so 🤞

I'm hoping the weather pushes off a bit. We don't have a caterer so they won't be there to flip the room. Our photographer is about two hours away and I couldn't even get her to go check out the venue ahead of time so ugh. I'm just watching the weather like a hawk right now (like it's going to do me any good).

Lol... I understand, I’ll be probably doing the same for our wedding in September 😆
The chances it rains all day are usually small, so I think you’ll catch at least couple of dry hours.

Can you look at photos from other weddings at that venue and see how other people have set it up for rain? I’m sure someone else has gotten married there on a rainy day! We did this and I actually kinda like the rain set up just as well as doing it outside. Maybe it won’t be as bad as ya think if it’s inside

The venue is barely a year old and they didn't start having weddings there until last summer (after the rainy season). I've tried, but there's not a massive amount of pictures from other weddings on their page to see how they have set up. I keep going back hoping there are though! In the end it will be fine, I'm just stressing out at this point with everyone messaging me asking questions.

How is your photographer in the rain? I only ask because if you do not mind getting wet, I have seen awesome pictures that were taken in the rain! Just offering something to make the most of the crappy situation!

Lucky for you, any forecast more than 3 days out has less confidence, although using a 90% right now is pretty gutsy. PS, I am a weather forecaster so I am prob going to over analyze haha. I would set up a plan, but only start really thinking about it on Thursday. In addition, make sure you are getting your weather from a reliable source (aka... not your phone). There are several popular applications that aren't overly reliable because they do not have a group of forecasters specifically looking at your area who know it well. Good luck and if you have any questions, feel free to dm me!

    Good luck!
If you're in tornado alley, that shouldn't keep your guests away. I assume y'all just sit outside during a tornado too like we do.

Mandy, your wedding will be beautiful, no matter the weather. You have planned to the Nth degree. I live in tornado alley, too. We had 77 last month. So excited your wedding day is finally here. Will pray the rain stops so you can have your outside ceremony. xoxo

Haha no worries! The National Weather Service (if you're in the US) definitely has the most accurate forecasts. All info is free as you pay for it with your tax money. You can even pinpoint your venue on the map and get an hourly forecast when you're 2 days away! On my wedding day I woke up to rain. Looked at the hourly forecast and it said it would stop at 11. It literally stopped at 11am! They live in your area too whereas other companies like ones with apps are stationed in one city yet forecast for the whole country.
