Weather and planning

Hello all: planning a wedding for next October because I want it outside near the beach or possibly up in the hills at a winery in southern Ca. I was picking early fall to be more sure of the weather for an outside ceremony. I see many at one of my outside venues had wedding dates in winter and early spring and all outside. I don’t live in CA and only really know from spending a lot of time there that October is still warm and even December this year was ok with rain though. My question is, is it realistic to plan a winter or spring or even November wedding, weather wise in southern CA? Did you have back up plans for something indoors for the rain? Crazy as it sounds, I can’t help but think of smoke being an issue as every year we are there it is smokey and I would not want guests in that outside if we choose a location at a winery. Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Kelly! I think your best bet is to check out historic weather patterns on sites like AccuWeather and Weather Spark, and to talk to your venue and ask for their advice!!

There are a lot of fabulous wineries in Temecula (we had our local reception there). But you need to ask the wineries when they cut the vines. I believe harvest season is Sept or Oct so bare vines might not be what you want. And in summer, the vineyards are gorgeous but it is hot so have your reception inside the winery and tell your guests to book hotels at least 6-8 months in advance because hotels are BOOKED (and a Saturday wedding may require a 2-night stay in high season prices).
