First, I just have to say you all have been such a help during my engagement! I have learned SO much from all of you and don't think I'm going to be leaving this forum after I get married on Saturday Smiley smile Some of you are very straight forward and that's exactly what I needed when reading the posts for advice someone else would ask. So thank you, lovely brides!

Ok, so the reason for my post is to ask if engagement rings should be worn the day of the wedding. I want to wear both moving forward, but since the wedding ring is the one closest to your heart, does he put the ring on my finger in front of the engagement ring (and then we switch the places after?) or do I keep my engagement ring off that day?

I would really like to have it all done the way it will be on my hand forever during the ceremony, but I can't find a smooth way to do that during the ceremonySmiley smile

@sam I was thinking of doing that. Maybe taking my e ring off while he puts it on?

    I like that idea @Erin!

I've been wondering about this too.. I will have two bands on mine that I will be placing on the wedding band side (inner side, whatever you call it), and don't know if I should just have him put one on and I can put the other on later with my engagement ring, or what..

All three rings were on the table when we got there- I put it on after he put the band on.

I kept my engagement ring on during the ceremony. I switched it when we were seated and nobody but me noticed I even did it. Either way, I don't think it matters much. It's a personal preference.

I wore my E ring like I normally did, and then he just slipped on my wedding band. Now they are soldered. To this day I don't pay attention to which one I put closest to me. Why is this a thing? To me it doesn't matter...

It literally doesn't matter what you do. You don't even need a ring to get legally married.

I had mine soldered together before the wedding and he put them both on.

Move it to to your right hand until after the wedding

I wore my engagement ring on my right hand for the ceremony and switched it back to my left hand after the exchange of rings.

I've heard a lot of different ways to wear it on the wedding day. I think it comes down to personal preference. There's no right/wrong way.

I wore mine on the ring finger on my right hand so my ring finger on the left didn't have anything on it. After the ceremony, I switched the engagement ring to my left hand over my engagement ring.

I wore mine on my left hand and slipped it to DH during a reading. I kind of forgot it until that point.

Your wedding band doesn't have to be "closest to your heart "

The other 'saying' is you have your ering on and the wedding band "seals the promise" --that's why the exchanging of rings occurs while you say your vows (promises)

    I prefer sealing the promise.

I'll probably keep it on my left hand, and slip it off at some point. Or, just not wear it. I'm wearing an antique opal ring on my right hand that belonged to my great-grandmother.

My wedding band is an enhancer, so my ering sits in it. So I am going to have them put together and then he will put both the ering and wedding band on my finger at once

Mine will be soldered together so he will put both on. I rather give up my ring a little before the wedding than after to get to soldered.

I think most people leave it on then switch it after the ceremony. That's what were doing to.

I would love to put it on my right and switch it over after, but did any of you do pictures/first looks beforehand? I’m getting married in a week and a half and I’m worried that my hands will swell.
