Ok ladies, should I get waxed for my wedding? Or is just shaving okay? I hate pain so I know if I wax there is a 100% chance I will cuss. I also know I tip well. Not sure if it's worth it though. Sorry for the odd question.

European wax center for sure! I had been going to beauty brands for year and happened to try European wax center. It's so much better! I also want to try sugaring.

@bea22 waxing doesn't itch when it grows back! I've never had issues at least.

I used to go and loved it, but I'm on a medication now that makes my skin too sensitive for waxing. I even have to pluck my own eyebrows Smiley sad

I would do it, but start going a little before the wedding. They recommend 2 weeks growth between waxes so go 2.5 weeks before the wedding, and again few days before the wedding.

I'm actually more concerned with being waxed right before the honeymoon so it lasts through the week. I got my legs waxed before a trip to Mexico, which was amazing because I didn't have to shave the entire vacation. We're leaving a week after the wedding, so I'll probably have to go 1 week before the wedding. We're also counting on being way too exhausted to do anything that night so I guess it doesn't matter as much haha

The first one is the worst. Find a clean and reputable place. I suggestion the European wax center.

Just a helpful hint to everyone else on here saying they broke out or got ingrown hairs.... that means your wax was dirty from double dipping... that should never happen

If you get waxed, make sure to go somewhere reputable with good reviews... I went to a Merle Norman and had no issues there before, but I had one lady who burned my hoohaw and that was one painful recovery!

ETA: I still get waxed at the same location and have never had an issue since that one lady (who no longer works there)

I've been waxing and going to European Wax Center for three years now. I love it, not the actual waxing but how my skin is silky smooth after. I go every two weeks though. My hair is pretty tough and grows back super fast. I totes their product line too. The body wash is the best. I don't get bumps or ingrowns hardly at all since I exfoliate every time I shower. And my waxer is a licensed esthetician.

I've done training for sugaring, and to be honest I'm not a big fan of it for brazilians and bikini waxes. I think its as uncomfortable as hard wax, if not more - particularly if you dont have super taut skin. We hold it taut, but its still difficult. In my experience, it breaks off the hair right at the skin surface much more frequently than with hard wax.

Also, my big issue - sugaring is just that -- its literally sugar paste, and I am of the opinion that any sugar based product has zero business around a woman's lady bits, particularly given that the same sugar ball is reused in multiple areas throughout the wax. Way too much opportunity for UTIs, yeast infections, etc.

@Kait -- double dipping should def never happen, but some people do break out or get ingrowns even if their waxer follows all the rules.

Not following proper aftercare instructions is a big cause -- but some people's skin just doesnt naturally exfoliate like others and they need to be SUPER vigilant and use chemical exfoliants like TendSkin, whereas others get away with doing minimal aftercare.

Folks with very curly or coarse hair down there are also more prone to ingrowns, simply because of the way the hair grows out of the follicle.

There is a place called waxing the city I go to, I've been getting waxed for 3 years now. I will never go back to shaving. But this place has a wax that I barely felt a thing when she was pulling it off. Also if you have a red door spa near you I believe they use sugar. If they don't use sugar make sure they offer hard wax, it's less painful that the paper strips

I stopped in at European Wax Center to ask about waxing my lip, chin & brows. I happened to be in a shop next door so it was a spontaneous stop. I usually have this done at my nail salon. It hurts, it's expensive (IMO), and I break out EVERY time with little bumps around every area they waxed. It looks like I am in puberty (I'm 43) again for a week or more after I get waxed. I had no idea until I started asking questions at European Wax Center that this was not supposed to happen.

I plan to get my next face wax done there, and will probably get other areas done before the wedding. I have never waxed anything other than my face, but am thinking I will for the wedding. BONUS: They offer great specials for first time clients (half off or free services) at the location I went to.

For anyone getting ingrowns... exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Double dipping would not be the only reason for this. And if you are going to a place that double dips, RUN. I'm a licensed esthetician and it makes my jaw drop to think someone would even THINK about double dipping. But you can see them do it since you're right there. And if they do, I recommend getting up and leaving. Cause it means they did it with other people. Nasty. Go to a reputable place and you'll be fine. And as far as I know (where I live anyway), you HAVE to be licensed to wax.

I got sugared this morning and it went great. :-) Any pain I had was gone as soon as the sugar paste came off.

All the places I've gotten sugared at give you wipes to clean up with after. Since it's sugar based, any excess comes off much more easily than wax. It melts off with water. My sugaring ladies usually change gloves (with the sugar balls) at least 3-4 times per session to keep it fresh.

ETA- bea22: I am usually more itchy after shaving.
