Washington DC Theme

errie108, on March 25, 2008 at 3:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Can anyone help me think of ideas of how to create a DC themed wedding???

The reception, at Top of the Town) has the best view of the city so I want to use that to my advantage.

So far other than the view all i have it we're going to name the tables after different monuments.

HELP!

You can use Cherry Blossoms as your flower since the festival is held there every year. Maybe have the colors be Pink, white, and black. You ca find TONS of things that can tie into the whole cherry blossom theme. Good luck.

I have a couple quick ideas for your reception:

since you're going to name each of the table after the different monuments then you could have each of the tables with a centerpiece that represents that monument, you could take pictures of the monuments (Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Capitol Building, Jefferson Memorial) and frame each picture then place 1 in the middle of the each table and surround them with candles and/or flower.

as wedding gifts you could give out monument shot glasses, t shirts, etc...

Well that's just a couple quick ideas...

    Hi & Congrats!

Do you have a professional wedding coordinator? I'm asking because that is typically something he/she would love to help with. DC has so much history, there is so much you can do around this theme. For example, you can incorporate the Metro (and it's stops), famous restaurants, waterfront and other famous night clubs, President's and First Ladies, sports teams, and the list goes on and on. Good luck!

Here's something you might not have thought of, and it deals with a side of DC different from its history as the seat of our federal government.

Quite a few great musicians have come from Washington DC, and you could ask your DJ to create a cocktail mix devoted to DC musicians.

Obviously, not all DC musicians would be suitable. But one that is, is Duke Ellington -- DC born and bred, and considered by many the greatest jazz composer and arranger and bandleader of the 20th century.

Some other famous DC musicians whose music would fit into a cocktail hour include: Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack, Charlie Byrd (jazz guitarist), Eva Cassidy, Mary Chapin Carpenter.

These are just a few off the top of my head.

Admittedly, not all the guests would "get" the DC connection but it's the kind of customized music selection that I enjoy working with, and perhaps it would add a musical dimension to your Washington theme.
