My BF and I have talked about getting engaged, and we have talked about he would like to do it on our one year... That was about all we have talked about... So our one year is coming up on the 19th and he is talking about how he wants to take me to the town& bar we met, and spend a weekend...

Absolutely. I think the month before it happened, I had still been making comments like, 'I don't really understand why some people get married' etc. about other people's marriages. And then completely out of left field he proposed. Apparently, he had had the ring for a year and had been waiting for me to thaw to the idea of marriage Smiley smile

As soon as he proposed and I've accepted though, all doubts went out the window and I'm super excited to be married to him! It's funny how that works! The "surprise" wasn't anything fancy - we were out for a walk and he just impromptu did it at a nice area along the lake. But the fact that it was a surprise was just wonderful Smiley laugh

I was expecting it, but was still totally surprised by the way it unfolded. I still cried and everything. I did have to tell myself throughout the weekend that "maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it won't happen." that helped a lot

We had talked about getting married for years.. we were together for 5 years before he popped the question. The day he did it though I had seriously no idea at all. I didn't even know he had been shopping for a ring. He took me to our state capital (about a 1 hour drive) and we were going on a horse carriage ride (It was Valentine's day so I didn't think anything of it), but I remember thinking on the car ride up that it would be so romantic to get engaged in a horse carriage.. and then that's what happened lol.

I knew I was going to get engaged but he caught me off guard by asking me in the car on my graduation day heading to the celebration dinner.

    @Alicia

Don't feel bad, FH and I talked for 3 months about marriage. Due to long distance and being together for 8 years it was a conversation to be had. He asked my mom for her blessing (she told me in advance). The weekend he came to visit he was wanting to go out downtown but since I work downtown I avoid it like a plague on the weekend. Anyway, I knew what was going on so I let him sweat it out for a few hours but was beginning to get irritated. So then I told him "Okay, buddy hand it over I know what's going on"........yeah, I don't have a "romantic" proposal story either. LOL. Also, since he "proposed" in my dark apartment when he gave me the ring I was like "oh okay". I don't wear jewelry but I know its supposed to sparkle and this thing was dull but a pretty good size. Anyway later I went in another room and what a surprise! Sparkles everywhere! I love the elevator lights at work, that's where it really shows off.

We had talked about it but I was beginning to think it would never happen since we had been together for 6 years. Clearly the proposal was a surprise since I showed up in running gear to go for the "run" he had planned.

Mine was a huge surprise. We have been together for 5 years. Whenever I talked about marriage, he would brush it off or say 5 more years to be married. And so for a while I would question myself if I was really going to wait 5 more years or even 2 more years. That evening, we went to a botanical garden with my siblings. And he acted just the same...nothing suspicious. He sighed when I asked if we were still going. He said that was the last Christmas thing he was gonna do. Just the being grumpy as usual ahah. He even walked really fast through the garden and I was like "man, I feel bad. He went but really didn't wanna come. I need to be nice." Saw a sign and didn't think it was for me.i asked him so many times if he was being forreal because I thought it was a joke hahaha

Mine was definitely not a surprise. He got drunk the night before and told me how he was going to do it. So we had plans for dinner the next night and I knew it was coming because he said how he was going to do it lol I would have liked a surprise, but I wasn't upset about it not being one. We had talked about it for awhile and I even picked out my ring so I knew it was coming eventually

Mine was a semi surprise. We had been talking about getting engaged. We went to my grandparents for the weekend and he asked to use my great-grandmothers ring. She passed away two years ago and I was super close to her. I was there when he asked because my FH has bad anxiety and was super stressed about asking. My grandparents absolutely love him so they couldn't have been happier. He still wanted to do an official proposal, so I thought it would be awhile.

The next day we went to the beach to take pictures. My FH thinks he's a photographer ever since he bought a camera. My family lives on a small island, so it's a great picture spot. He asked to go back at sunset to get some cute couple pictures. We went back at sunset and he set a timer so we could get a cute picture with the sunset in the background. He proposed in the picture!!! I wasn't expecting it so I had the best reaction in the picture. It was super sweet how he did it and I love that we have the picture.

We hadn't even really talked about it..no ring browsing, nothing. So it was a complete surprise for me! He had gone to my hometown and asked my parents, so they knew about it, but I had no idea!

Total surprise. He'd gone 43 years without getting married because he "never found the right woman". Never thought I could be that woman -- what did I have that the others didn't??? -- so when he got down on one knee with that ring box open I was about as surprised as I'd even been in my life.

My FH and I first talked about getting married like seriously about a year and a half before the wedding date. We started to tell our parents even though he hadn't technically proposed yet. We went to look at engagement rings together and I told him what I liked and everything.

Fastforward about 6 months he bought the ring without telling me and told my mom and sister but my mom accidentally spilled about him having the ring. (she can't keep a secret to save her life bless my momma's heart) When he actually did propose I really wasn't expecting it though. We were taking pictures with a friend of ours that is a photographer and I had no idea at the end he was planning on pulling the ring out. I absolutely loved it and its all on video and we have great pictures to always remember that day! He ended up getting the ring that I had liked the most and the whole day was perfect! When it actually does happen its a completely different feeling than you'd think. I didn't think anything would surprise me or make it feel "special" but he managed to do it.

I knew when my fiance was going to propose. He had been asking me a lot of specifics about rings and then the guy who doesn't make plans ahead of time starting asking me what weekend I was off work so we could go to this little beach that's one of our favorite spots. Plus my mom started texting me every week asking if I was working the weekend. So when we finally had a good weekend to go (with my mom texting that it was such a beautiful day and we should go outside somewhere) I was pretty sure he was proposing. So it wasnt a surprise but it was still perfect! Though I was surprised by how perfect his little speech was, how perfect the ring he picked was, and to find out that 2 months before he drove 3.5 hrs to have dinner with my parents and ask their blessing. While sometimes I do wish I hadn't known it was coming, it doesn't make it any less perfect and beautiful!! Just try to have fun that weekend and don't stress about it. But make sure your nails are done just in case.

He could still surprise you! FH and I went to pick the ring out together and even though I knew it was coming I didn't know when he was actually going to propose. It ended up not being a great proposal but that doesn't mean yours won't be great.

We talked about it a lot, I know FH didn't propose the way he wanted to. He proposed in the kitchen while I was prepping to bake, but he is more a grand gesture person, and I am more a private person. Since my e-ring is still at the jewelers I told him he can do whatever embarrassing proposal he wants when he gets the real ring, because I know it means a lot to him.

We were already planning the wedding but FH wasn't satisfied with his first proposal. FH put me in a bad mood that morning which made me not excited for the day (though I wasn't as mad by the time we sat down and were talking during dessert). After spending time with friends and having dessert, I just wanted to go home because I was tired and my feet hurt. He insisted we go walking by the river and we came across this place where couples had used rocks to put their names into the wall and he said we should. I was too busy looking at the wall and telling him it might be vandalism and didn't notice he was pulling out the ring. I remember him saying he loves me and when I turned around, he was kneeling down and asking me to be his wife. I ugly cried I was so happy.
