Was it a surprise or did you know it was coming

So I basically knew exactly when the proposal was happening. We talked about it a lot together and I knew when he was getting the ring and that he couldn’t hold on to it for long because he was so excited. I just don’t wanna look back and regret not being surprised. Did anyone else have this?

We knew pretty early (like a month into our relationship) that we wanted to get married to each other, but at the time we were both college students with little money and he wanted to make sure that we weren't going too hard into our honeymoon phase. About a year and a half later we still felt the same way, we'd already been living together for a year, and we'd been really working together as a team. He wanted to make sure he had enough money for a proper ring, but I knew he had gotten it during a Valentine's day sale at the jewelry shop that I pointed out to him. Then he wanted to make sure that there was a proper moment, (mostly he was hoping sometime during our spring break trip to New Orleans there'd be a proper time) but I figured out the time frame too. During the first half of the trip, I would be looking for the right place and time with him too, but his family was also around. I ended up convincing him that we should do it soon or he'd talk himself out of it and aave it for later (even though he promised me spring break was going to be that moment). The problem was he was looking for that nice movie-esque moment and I told him what matters is the two of us, not the moment. We ended up getting engaged next to the riverside at night while no one else was around, not the most romantic thing but we still like to laugh about it today.

It was a complete surprise! My parents were in town from out of state and we were out to dinner the night before my birthday and it was their last night in town. It was after dinner and we all walked up to the rooftop dining area for pictures. I guess him and my mom had a "code". When he handed her his phone to "take a photo" he got down on one knee and proposed. I was in utter shock. After a second of realizing it wasn't a dream, i said YES and everyone (complete strangers) started clapping and cheering for us. It was perfect and so unexpected!

He definitely needed help picking out a ring and he let me know when he did buy the ring. He gave me a date range as in it wouldn't be later than this date or so. However, it was a total surprise that day. Although I did notice some weird things on our trip. He wanted to take his own bag instead of packing a bag together which we usually do, he kept his backpack on in the car and was all nervous, and he and my girl friend INSISTED I go get my nails done to "treat myself" the week before. So I was surprised, but also knew pretty much what was going on.

My fiancé and I had been together for over 10 years & we had talked about marriage frequently, however everytime proposing came up he said that I would have to do it because he wasn’t going to to, so an engagement seemed like a far off in the future thing. When he actually proposed I was so surprised and I didn’t know what to do (there was a lot of crying & screaming). He had been planning this for YEARS! Everytime he said that I would have to propose he was trying to throw me off, and I had no clue it was coming at all.

I knew almost exactly when he was going to propose, he's not good at keeping surprises. They way he proposed was a surprise though; he pretended to be upset and had me follow him to the proposal spot to check that he was ok lol

The proposal was sord of a surprise. The topic of marriage has been mentioned before and we both agreed we did not want to rush into things, when the timing felt right it would happen. This October we will make 8 years together and both of our families over the years have been consistently asking "when are you getting married". So it was always something we new we were heading towards, just didn't know when. A few months back before my fiancee popped the question, we were at dinner with our closest friends from college and my friend asked if my thoughts on marriage had changed (I never too keen on the idea of marriage) and I said the idea didn't bother me as much as it used to. That being said, both my friend and fiancee stared at each other and smiled (that was the first hint). Before we left for vacation I said goodbye to my boss, who mentioned "Imagine if he proposes?!." So the idea of it happening was lingering. We were on a cruise ship heading to Cuba (I'm half cuban and never been, so needless to say I was excited for the trip). One day I went into the safe to put our money away and he said "don't go in there" and I asked "why" he replied, "Its a surprise, I have a gift for you," (second hint) I kept telling myself to stop jumping to conclusions, but couldn't resist the idea of it possibly being an engagement ring (and no I didn't snoop around). As we were scuba diving, he pulled me aside and had this prolong 7 minute speech of his love and our life so far (third hint - not to mention it looked like he was shitting himself, literally!) and he pulled out the ring and popped the question, and I said yes!

I knew about it. He said something about a ring for my birthday then Christmas. Asked my mom if he could marry me. Then my dad. Both were sarcastic. One day him my mom and I were going shopping. He asked my mom again then she asked him questions like why he wants to marry me and other things. That day we went into a jeweler wasn’t impressed. He asked me what kind I would like. While I went shopping at the mall he and my mom found a ring. Picked it out and a week or two later he got my ring sized and bought it. I knew it was coming. And even figured out what day it was happening, him telling me to get my nails done was the big hint. He later told me his original plan didn’t work since the band didn’t play my favorite song. So after the concert as he was cleaning the car off he told me to come help and there he was in the snow on his knees (yes both) and asked me to end the night even more perfect.

My proposal was a little bit of both! Steve surprised me on our 4 year dating anniversary in August by taking me to Jared to pick out some engagement rings that I loved so that he was sure what he got for me was something I would absolutely love. After that appointment, he went back when he was ready and picked out 1 engagement ring from the 3 I had picked. So I knew we would be getting engaged at some point but I didn't know when! He then surprised me Christmas day with a proposal while we were surrounded by our immediate families opening gifts It was honestly the best proposal ever. I liked that he felt confident in the ring he picked because it is an investment for him and I also liked not knowing what ring he was getting or when he planned on asking the big question!

I had no clue - we had NEVER talked marriage in 2 1/2 years. I was divorced and had no intention of getting married. (We were both 50 at the time, he had never been married.) He started to get really serious in his conversation and frankly, I thought he was breaking up with me!!! Then he proposed and I busted out crying and could not stop for about seven minutes, so yeah......I was surprised!!!!

Nothing about mine was a surprise. He did his best, but either FH is not good at surprises or I am really good at figuring things out. I knew he had the ring because I freaked out and started crying when I thought I had lost my most special ring that my mom gave me that I had told him was the correct size... and he had to calm me down and tell me that he had it. We went on vacation to Mexico about a month later with my bff and her husband, and we scheduled a romantic dinner for just the 2 of us and then wanted to do a walk on the beach with my friends after since they were leaving the next morning and we were staying a few more days. When we went to schedule the dinner, we left the concierge and said he had to run back and ask them something about the schedule and I went ahead back to the room because I had to poop because Mexico. That day, I drank way too much and wasn't feeling well, but he kept insisting that this HAD to happen and was really important... so yeah, I knew everything. I didn't know exactly when in the day, but I knew it would be at dinner or on the walk afterwards, and he did it on the walk because he knew how important my bff is to me. He started with, "well, I know you already know so I guess now is as good a time as any and we can't keep walking since it's pitch black out here..." I sometimes wish it was more romantic and he tried his best, but he and I are just a bundle of awkwardness and drunk a lot, just like the proposal, so really it suits us pretty well.

Mine was a complete surprise! We have both been married before and neither were in a rush to even think about going through all that again. We are both big into antique shopping and during our stops, I had mentioned my love for antique jewelry. At our favorite shop, I saw a ring that I fell in love with and every time we would go back to this store, I would go see if it was still there. One day it was gone. It was with that ring that he proposed with.

Mine was both. We discussed marriage, rings, and I saw the ring he got from his mom (he showed me.) So, I knew it was coming but not exactly when. However, three "major" events passed and it didn't happen so I thought maybe he decided to want until I graduated school. So, it REALLY caught me off guard when he proposed at our Halloween party in front of all our friends. I was literally so shocked I said "what are you doing?!" When he got on one knee 😂🙊🙈

I knew exactly what was happening and everything! I love it because my fiance wanted everything to be perfect so he asked me about almost every detail. My ring would have been a surprise but my daughter got to excited one day and showed me lol (she was 2 at the time so it was cute). It didn't happen the way we had thought it out just because the place he wanted to do it at was closed. But it was still special and I'm honestly happy he included me in such an important decision. We always say we're best friends but in that time we really did act like best friends. He would ask me what I thought and he would tell me he was nervous and I would get to be like "nah man she's going to love it dude!" lol and vice versa. I think it honestly made us closer and I don't regret it for a second! Smiley smile

I knew he was going to propose once we bought our house but I didn’t know when. We closes inn august and started ring shopping in November. Once I picked out my ring I was anxious for 6 weeks. The jeweler even called me to tell me it was ready! Lol and he did it on Dec 9th. The ring was ready before thanksgiving

We basically picked out a ring together, but I did not know when he was going to do it. Knowing it was going to happen made it less of a surprise, but it didn't ruin anything.

I knew he was going to propose the moment he brought me to the "venue." I even texted one of my friends to tell them it was happening right before we left! It was my dream proposal, which I had never told him about, so that was super special that he came up with it on his own. However, knowing it was coming made it a little awkward! I wouldn't have had it any other way, but I had no idea how to act through the whole thing! I veered into some weird conversation topics, but it all makes for a good story!
