Walking Down the Aisle - Pace?

Brittany, on January 9, 2019 at 9:15 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 23

I've been wondering about this for awhile, after watching the wedding videos of others and noticing that most people walk at a brisk pace down the aisle.

Isn't it supposed to be slower than a regular walk? At least for the bride?

Maybe I'm just stuck on the scene from "Father of the Bride" where the little boy is practicing in their hallway and saying "right, together, left, left, together, right" Smiley xd

Will guests become impatient if I take my time getting to my groom and just revel in that moment? I'm personally not planning on speed walking down the aisle but I see that a lot in the wedding videos I watch...it's confusing to me.

Clarification please!

You don't move super slow, but you don't walk at a fast pace. I walked alone so I didn't need to pace myself with anyone else. I just walked a touch slower then my normal speed.

I don't plan to take too long, but I'm definitely going to (try to) walk a little slower than normal. I'm naturally a fast walker with long legs, so it'll be hard for me not to just want to get down the aisle to my man! But this is a special moment for my dad too, so I plan to enjoy it and try to slow down!

Lol I hope my post didn't come off like I intended to walk down the aisle at sloth speed Smiley laugh I just mean intentionally slowing down, like you said. I think people walk fast due to nerves or just being excited, but it translates to haste in some of the wedding videos I've seen. Especially when the processional is slow!

Take your time! I don’t think any guests will be there timing you, haha! They’ll probably enjoy the extra time they get to glance between you and your fiance. Also, your ceremony is going to fly by. It will be over before you know it and it will feel like a dream. Cherish every single moment. Enjoy this!

I’m planning on pausing before I start walking. I want to appreciate that moment when me and my FH lay eyes on each other for the first time. I want a moment to catch my breath and just take it all in. A year of planning and here we are, sort of thing! Plus, I LOVE the song I’m walking down the aisle too and I want to listen to it for as long as possible Smiley smile

I didn't think I walked that fast, but apparently I was speeding my way down the aisle Smiley xd so even if you think you're walking slow/normal, walk even slower!

I’ve been to over 80 weddings as a musician. This is what happens. At the rehearsal everyone is relaxed and slow. At the ceremony they get nervous and rush. Just take your time and take each moment that you want to remember.

I’m definitely taking my time and walk fairly slowly. When I watch the wedding highlight videos and the bride walks at a normal pace I cringe a little because it looks so rushed. I’m sure it’s hard in the moment but if there’s one thing I’m going to make sure if it’s walking slow enough to take it all in

I agree! I've seen so many where it looks like the bride is running and I want to do the exact opposite of that lol it doesn't look graceful at all Smiley atonished

It's your wedding... you decide the speed...

Take your time and revel at the moment as you walk towards your groom.

Perhaps (like I will) you can try and have a slower song that you can pace yourself too.

My sister in law ran up the aisle, and it felt a bit disconcerting to watch. It's such a precious moment

Yes, me too! This is the one thing I regret about my wedding - that I didn't walk slow enough! I spent all year working out the timing for my processional since I was using one song for the bridal party and me and I got the timing perfect. But I was so nervous when I began walking down the aisle that I walked faster than intended. It comes across in the video. My first bridesmaid walked down the aisle so gracefully that it looked like she was gliding down the aisle. I wish I had walked like her! She did the right, together, left, etc. step and it looks beautiful and is not too slow at all.

My dad walks slower than I do, so I know he'll keep me from rushing down the aisle. What I'm afraid of is dropping to my knees from crying so much when I see my FH up there waiting for me. That'll slow things down for sure! Lol

So funny you mention this, I've been thinking lately that I'm going to embarrass myself ugly crying as I come down the aisle Smiley xd I cry just thinking about that moment!

I feel like a lot of people walk quickly because they're aware of all of the eyes on them. I know that may be the case for me, so I'm going to try to take it at my own pace and enjoy the moment!

Your officiant should direct the speed to match music. No it shouldn't be too fast as pictures need to be taken. When I was in a catholic wedding the priest was adamant about walking at a slow pace down that damn long church aisle which I hated but he was right. During the rehearsal he literally yelled at people to slow down! hahah Smiley xd
