Vows

Dominique, on May 28, 2019 at 3:30 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
So, I've never done one of these things and I'm kind of afraid of sounding stupid. But I'm fairly new to this app but maybe this will help. Me and my fiance are kind of doing things a little different we want to get married now so were doing a court house ceremony in July. But his whole family is out of state and cant be here so we're doing a full blown wedding next summer when they can be here. Sense we'll already be married we're just using my brother (his best friend) as our officiant but he's not actually getting ordained we want to do our own vows but we're not sure how that works. Do you still say the "in sickness and in health stuff"? Do the vows come before or after the I dos and the rings? We're so lost and not having an ordained officiator to help us makes it harder but we really want my brother to "marry us" infront of everyone. If anyone can give me any insight that would be great. Thank you

The exchanging of the vows typically comes before the ring ceremony. Googling "ceremony scripting" or "wedding ceremony order of events," may be helpful.

Since you will already be legally married, there are no rules about what needs to/should be said during your vow renewal. I agree with looking up examples online but only include the parts you really want.

    Hi Dominique Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

Don’t ever be afriad of ‘sounding stupid’! Many of our members are planning their first wedding, so we’re all in the same boat! You’re not expected to be a wedding planning expert.

The community is always here to help with any questions you have Smiley heart

Maggie is totally right. Since you’re already legally married, there is no rule about what you have to say during your vow renewals. If you want to use the same vows as the courthouse wedding, go for it!

Along with searching for "wedding ceremony order of events" online as Caytlyn mentioned, it may help you to look up a vow renewal, or wedding ceremony on YouTube if you’re unsure of the sequence of events e.g. when the vows are said, ring exchanged, etc.

Does this make things clearer for you?
