Hey ladies! I haven't been on here in a while- but I was watching David Tutera's My Fair Wedding premier tonight and the husband on the show pulled the wife's 12 year old son and said a set of vows to him and asked him to take him as his father. I thought it was the cutest thing! it brought me to tears! I have 3 children and I was wondering what are your thoughts on having a future spouse say a set of vows to the children in the family too? Do you think it's too much? or is it important for the little ones?

I didn't like the idea of doing vows together, even though we both have children from our previous marriage.

We are doing a signing ceremony. When FH and I sign our marriage license, we will have a seperate family contract type thing that all 7 of us will sign that will be displayed in our home.

I already have mine written as a matter of fact, Im sure I will touch it up later. But we definitely wanted to incorporate our children so I suggested we do our vows to them after we do our traditional vows. I recorded David Tutera going to watch it now and see how they incorporated it

The vows above (where step-parent speaks to parents) I use when the children are too young to understand. When the children are old enough to understand, the step-parent says something similar to the stepchildren. I don't have the children respond (who knows how that may turn out!).

I have the whole new family (B&G & children) pour sand into a larger bottle during the unity sand celebration. The kids especially like that.

The grandparents are usually in tears.

I think the vows are a great idea - we are doing them in our ceremony as well. My fiance has an 8 y/o son that I will be saying vows to. I am getting him a ring with engraving inside... The ring will be on a chain for now, until he is old enough to wear it. He will also be giving me a ring. When he and his dad went into the jewelry store to pick up my wedding band he asked if he could give me something during the wedding too, so he picked out a pearl ring. We will also be doing the sand ceremony and having him participate. My future step-son is my fiance's world, so it is very important for us to involve him in the wedding as much as possible.
