Vow Renewal - Dos and Donts?

Me and my DH got married on 6.28 and are doing a vow renewal next year as our celebration of marriage since we eloped with just his parents there. I still want to have some pre-ceremony events, such as bridal shower, bachelorette or welcome brunch for family coming into town, but am not sure if it’s acceptable since we are already married. We have announced it so it’s not a secret. I don’t want to do these parties for gifts or money, mainly for memories and photo opts. I know since I’m already married, it won’t necessarily be a bachelorette party, but what could I call it? My BM are still really looking forward to this event as a bridal party, but did I forfeit that right to have these events since we eloped?

We are also wanting to have a big bridal party, which want in the plans before but he’s made lots of friends since joining the Army and I think we can pull it off now that we both have supportive friends to stand by us.

I’m also wondering if I should rent a reception dress (already have a ceremony dress that I never wore and still love it, but it’s a ball gown and not comfy for dancing in the summer heat). Before eloping we planned to have a winter wedding so I chose that dress to keep me warm. It’s srill strapless but it’s a huge ball gown. Ceremony will be inside so I know I’ll be fine, I’m just worried about comfort.

Lastly, I am wondering what percent of this should be used towards decor? I found an event planner and graphic designer that quoted me about $**** for this style (industrial chic/rustic glam, pics attached). I’m wondering if this is too much? I wanted to DIY at first, but she said she has most of the items I want as decor already, and if she doesn’t she can get them for cheaper than I can since she’s a vendor. Trying not to get scammed here! Decor is very important to us, and we want draping on some walls which can get pretty expensive.

Overall budget of 7,000 if that helps put the decor budget into perspective. Sorry this was so long. Advice is greatly appreciated on any of these topics.

In this situation I would be very surprised to be invited to a shower on your honor. A ladies day out on the town is fine in lieu of a bachelorette.

I really came to comment on the decor. You are looking at thousands of dollars to republicans those photos. Did you want the florals too or just the candles? Because even faux florals will be $$$$.

Hey! I’m leaning more towards day on the town now reading the comments. Maybe a spa day for the girls and sip and paint/brunch before we start our relaxing day. Speaking on decor, I did want some fake florals on the tables similar to the pictures described, but mainly using it for inspiration as I’ll be using candles, pinecones, and cylinder vases to add height and versatility. The decor budget includes flexibility because we are weighing out options to see if we need more decor based on the venue (one is plain concrete floors and yellow brick walls -yuck- so we’d have to really dress it up or go minimal, the other is brick walls and concrete floors so not much decor needed outside of table arrangements). Option 1 is about 1,000 less to rent for the day, so I budgeted for having to spend extra on the venue OR spending more on decor. Thanks for your input, I did consider that into it though because the decor and music are super important to us so I hopped on that first. Smiley smile

We are omitting the same things! Except we do want to have a get together with our friends from out of town when they come, but not a party type thing. I haven’t considered letting him see me before yet.. I should ask him! Happy planning to you too 😊❤️

Yes, of course we would be more than willing to host the brunch activities for the bridal party and welcoming our guests in with a bite to eat. I’m sure he’d wanna hang with his buddies too, so we could all plan it accordingly. It’ll be a weekend of fun Smiley smile I’m super excited! Thanks for your input and support. ❤️

UPDATE: WE FOUND OUR DREAM VENUE! It's at an art museum that lets us bring in our own catering and drinks! We have cut our budget in half by eliminating a lot of pre-wedding activities that you all have suggested, and we're super happy with how everything is going!

Also, we're doing a short ceremony (15 mins) with my uncle officiating (he's a pastor). We are doing a cocktail style reception with finger foods, drinks, and music for 3 hours (our venue charges by the hour).

I am OVER THE MOON with hubby being on board with everything, and we pay the deposit for our venue tomorrow! I've been talking with 3 caterers, and I'm DIYing a lot of our decor instead of hiring the planner to save some money. We're still doing the "industrial chic" theme, but our venue has the brick and metal design already, so we don't have to do much (YAY!). They provide the chairs and tables, we just have to do centerpieces and our DIY photo booth to keep our guests entertained. I opted out of the ballgown for the ceremony because June wedding + millions of layers of tulle is a NO NO (so I donated it back to Goodwill where I got it from) and I'm doing 2 semi-formal dresses that I found online for under $50! I will post pics once they get here.

Thanks soooo much for all our advice ladies! ❤️
