Viewing party or not?

OnCloudCrutcher, on September 4, 2017 at 3:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

I had several people at the reception mention they can't wait for the viewing party. I'm guessing for the video and pictures.

Has anyone else done this or considered it? Is it a big thing? Who do you invite?

If the viewing party was for people who attended the wedding, what would be the point since they witnessed it firsthand? If it was for people who weren't invited, what would that say to them other than, "You weren't good enough to be there but you get to see the pics and video after the fact"? I don't think this needs to be a thing.

Never heard of it. Sounds a little...self-indulgent. If someone else wanted to throw this for you, maybe? But I would not host a viewing party of my wedding video...we're not even having a videographer!

Ehh, maybe just have a thank you party for anyone who helped plan, was excessively supportive, etc and just happen to show the video? It seems a bit weird to me.

A viewing party is a casual get together at your home for immediate family and the bridal party to see the photo's and order any you want. They are not common anymore due to the internet. Last one I went to was in the 90's.

That sounds awful. I wouldn't want to watch a video of someone else's wedding that I've already attended.

I definitely remember doing this when my sisters for married in the early 90s. They didn't have YouTube, Facebook, or email then, so there was no other way to share it.

We took our photos to a family cookout, but that wasn't the point of the get together. I wouldn't throw a separate gathering for the sole purpose of making people look at videos and photos of you

I love this site. Thanks everyone. I had to laugh when I saw everyone asking what's that or saying something from the 90's because now that I think about it the ones that asked were older.

Ever heard of it, but sounds like something I would do with the immediate family.

Someone just asked me that yesterday when I told them that we will be getting our 25 minute feature film in about another month (we already have the highlight trailer).

My "viewing party" for the trailer was on my social media pages. We don't plan on sharing the 25 minute feature film to anyone other than our immediate families, or if someone asks to see it.

Honestly, when you said "viewing party", I was thinking of something that happened in 80's (the bride would invite her BP, sister, mother, and FMIL -- you know, female VIPS -- to a luncheon, and then she'd parade around in her wedding gown. I say "parade" because that's exactly what my sister did. FWIW, I didn't, lol).

Showing up to view wedding photos and videos. Sure, if I'm you're mother or the MOG, Otherwise, thanks, but no thanks. When guests kiss you goodnight at the reception, the next thing they expect to hear from you will come courtesy of USPS -- a handwritten thank you card.

It. Sounds weird and "look guys, look at me". I'll have a viewing party with my hubby. That's it.

I have never heard of it. But is a cute idea. Especially after you drop some money for a videographer lol

It's not a "cute idea". In fact, it's boring unless those in attendance are your moms and sisters (and who knows if sisters are willing to spend the day reliving your wedding...maybe not). Declines are not cute. You had your wedding. Event over and filed away.
