Videography? Yay or Nay?

How does everyone feel about Videography? Is it worth it for the money you pay? Or are pictures enough to document the day.

I didn't have a videographer. A few guests took (discreet) videos of our ceremony on their phones, so we do have video. We couldn't justify the expense of thousands of extra dollars for a video we may only watch once a decade or so. Photographs can be displayed. A video can't. If you have the money in your budget, I don't think it's bad to have. Our wedding was in July and I haven't found myself regretting the lack of videographer.

I wish we could fit a videographer into our budget, but we can’t. I don’t think it’s a necessity but would definitely be nice to have!

Yeah, I think about how nice it would be to have the video but then I think about how many times I would actually watch it and I just can't justify spending that much money on something I may only watch once a year!

We're getting a videographer, but only because we're using someone who is just breaking into wedding videography (he currently does beautiful corporate work, but is wanting to expand his client base). He's giving us a VERY generous discount because he's a friend of a friend and we were the first who are hiring him for a wedding (though my fingers are crossed that he'll get at least one wedding shot before ours next July). We went over budget on our photographers (definitely worth it and do not regret that for even one second!) so would not have been able to afford a videographer (which was on my wish list, though was not a must-have) if we hadn't found the one we're using.

I had one and it was so worth it. I love looking back at our pictures and I do feel like I remember details by pictures but nothing like the video. Seeing my husband say his vows to me and his face while walking down the aisle. I think video is more vivid. I personally don’t remember his vows because I was so nervous and being able to hear it again is very special.

Yes!! Both my FH and I agreed that we wanted a videographer to document our day! We think it adds a different perspective than having just pictures. It’s something we want to be able to look back through out the years and show our kids and grandkids.

Most of the time, videography is something people wish they had. FH and I decided to hire a videographer because we want to watch it and relive the experience. To save some money though, we're only having the ceremony filmed and requested only raw footage. Editing costs lots of money, so if you're okay with raw footage that's something great to consider!

Definitely nice to have! We had other priorities for our budget, so we opted for an outstanding photographer instead. Also, we are super private people and thought it would be kind of awkward and didn’t wanna waste time on our wedding day worried about getting great footage

Although she always wanted it, videography didn't initially fit daughter's budget. She ended up getting an unexpected Christmas bonus -- three weeks before the wedding -- and decided to see what she could find last minute. She tried Thumbtack (she was super picky about all her other vendors, but this was super last minute and it needed to be cheap, so she gave it a shot) and found a couple with a great portfolio who happened to not be booked for her date. They charged $100 per hour for the two of them to film, and that included all the raw, unedited footage. They also had the option of adding on one of several highlight reel options at an additional cost. She ended up booking them for 7 hours, and received 6 hours of unedited footage. Not many people besides she or I would want to sit through all that, but we've each watched it all a few times. It's really neat to see and hear so much as it happened throughout the day. She also went ahead and ordered a 6-7 minute highlight reel for an additional $800. So, for $1500 total, she got all the raw footage and a really nice highlight video she's shared with friends & family. (She also had 11 hours of photographer coverage that resulted in 1100+ edited photos, but as others have mentioned, you get different things from the two different media.) She's REALLY glad she found a way to make it work, as she says she would have very much regretted not having the video. Good luck!

We’re not doing videography. I think it’s nice to have, but not a priority for us and definitely not in the budget.

It was a must for FH and I!! We found a great girl who makes beautiful videos and she fell into our budget. It was also great because she was running a promotional sale and we saved even more. So glad we were able to book her!

It was a must for my now husband. Honestly I’m glad he pushed so hard for it because our wedding went by so fast and I can’t wait to relive it once we get our video back.

It’d be nice to have, but it’s not in our budget. Given the resources though, we’d probably have one.

If we could afford it, we would have definitely had one booked. Photography is good enough for us!!

I would have loved to have hired one but unfortunately it is not in our budget. I have my stepdaughter filming it on a tripod so at least we'll have our actual ceremony on video which is really what FH wanted.

We originally did not hire a videographer just photographer but as the wedding is approaching I was really starting to regret that decision so I contacted our photographer and asked what he could do for us if I just wanted a raw video of ceremony and first dance and he has a guy that will do it for $500. Sometimes you can try to work out a deal.

Our videographer is a college student in school for videography. She’s only charging me $150!!! How do I turn that down?! I will be her first wedding but can’t beat that price, especially when there will be her and her friend working the entire wedding day for me! I will definitely give her more than that. Also, it’s my photographers sister, and they are good family friends. I’m so excited and brag about my price lol her work is amazing

Personally, we decided not to have a videographer. After we sat down and thought about it, we could honestly say that we could never see ourselves sitting down and watching our wedding video – aside from once when we first got the video back. We have decided to save our money and invest it in other aspects of the wedding, and just enjoy the videos our guests get during the night Smiley smile

We had originally hired a videographer, but we have recently been discussing cancelling. That's a hard hit on the budget.
