Videography or diy camcorder?

I would really like to record our wedding but refuse to spend 1500 to 2000 just to do it. Any one else just set up camcorders and DIY? Any suggestions would be great

That's still a hefty chunk remaining.

Our original budget was $5k....for everything (35-40 guests). We quickly realized it needs to be doubled. My area is an expensive area, so we have to budget accordingly.

People give you sound reasons why logistically, financially, emotionally and physically your ideas need to be tweaked and you spend 6 pages arguing about why it can work. It is because you have not made up you mind. You think you are making decisions but you are not

It's okay to go back and forth with what you want to do for your wedding. I wouldn't sign any contracts so soon though...it's just so far away for you. I pulled my wedding together in 5 months and didn't even pick my photographer until 2 months before. He was great too but I had to find someone from out of state willing to travel as most of the decent photographers in my area were booked up. If you're not looking for the best of the best for photography/video, then don't worry about having to book so early.

How sentimental of a person are you? I'm not a big fan of videos but hubby had hired one for our overseas celebration for his family. It's been 5 months since that and I haven't even watched the finished product....

Every couple is different, but most couples share similar regrets:

    1. Not hiring a videographer

    2. Scrimping on their wedding photography

    3. Not hiring a professional DJ

    4. Having a wedding that is too large

A wedding is an investment in yourself - an investment in your memories. It's important to ask yourself what that is worth to you.

Rarely, do you see stories from couples who tried to do it themselves or hired a "cheap professional" not regret that decision. It's very easy to feel overwhelmed by wedding costs and most couples look to cut costs with their DJ, photographer and videographer.

The first place to look when cutting costs is the guest list. Most couples have at least 5 people they can remove and this alone will typically cover the costs of one of your wedding professionals. There are a lot of other areas to cut costs too that don't cheat yourself from having your wedding memories. I hope you find this helpful and I wish you the best of luck.

We hired the photographer and we're taking our own video recorder and we'll set it up so it can record the whole thing, why waste more money?

It's your wedding and if you want to have that memory I don't suggest to skip it. If you're okay with a camcorder then do it! I'm personally not having a videographer because I don't want to spend more money. But I think it's great you're trying to find other means of having a video of your big day! Stay positive and continue trying. You'll figure it out.

I had the same question for my wedding. We decided to do the diy and set up a camcorder as I couldn't spend the money on professional. We had the camcorder set up perfectly when taking pictures with family and I had told my personal attendants to make sure they hit record before the ceremony. All my bridesmaids knew about it too..... well the time came and nobody hit record. Just as I was about to walk down the aisle my now hubby saw the camcorder and realized nobody hit record but it was too late at that point. I didn't get any videos of the day or even remember the ceremony since it went to fast and was a blur with the excitement. I wish I would have just bit the bullet and bought a professional to do the job. I regret not seeing the ceremony or remembering the most important part of the day. The photographer did great but didn't get the full effect from it or our giggles or what was even said. I recommend looking for at least a college student who wants to go into videography.

"We already arent doing save the dates,or favors. All we are having for decor r mason jars and a few string lights, flowers will be 100 bucks for all our bouquets and the men's."

Maybe....push the date and have a wedding when you can actually afford it?

I've seen Thumbtack recommended for things like this. A lot of the vendors on there are students or just starting out, so they are willing to do small jobs like recording just the wedding ceremony.
